TNM Super League: Ekhaya beat Karonga 2-0 to move third on the log table

Ekhaya FC have moved to the third position on the TNM Super League log table following their 2-0 win over Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Wednesday afternoon.

Chimwemwe Yasini and Clever Chikwata were on target for the Cowboys who were coming from a bad outing as they were beaten 1-0 by Kamuzu Barracks over the weekend.

Yasin beat Karonga goalkeeper McLean Mwale to put the host ahead just 7 minutes from kick-off after receiving a brilliant pass from Clever Chikwata.

Three minutes later, Stanley Billiat almost doubled the lead for Ekhaya after receiving a pass from James Lumbe but the effort was beautifully saved by Mwale.

Mwale came to the rescue again in the 17th minute, saving Stanley Billiat’s shot to deny the home side from extending the lead.

In the second half, Karonga looked a changed side and Nature Kaonga almost found the back of the net in the 54th minute when his shot missed the upright after Ekhaya goalkeeper Elias Missi went out of position.

Two minutes later Ekhaya had an opportunity to score as Lovemore Mbeta headed wide from close range after receiving a cross from Stanley Billiat.

Clever Chikwata who was also voted man of the match scored Ekhaya’s second goal in the added time after beating two defenders and the goalkeeper to ensure maximum points for the home side.

Ekhaya are now level on 12 points with second placed Mighty Wanderers but the Cowboys have played two more games than the Nomads.

Karonga are now fifth on the log table with 9 points from 5 games.

Elsewhere, the match between Creck Sporting and Kamuzu Barracks ended goalless at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji.

Creck are now 14th on the log table with five points after playing five games and KB are fourth with 10 points from six games.

Vice President Usi Ministry of Mining is a cash cow for Malawi’s economy

Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has described the Ministry of Mining as a potential cash cow that can help revitalize Malawi’s economy.

Usi made the remarks during a Public Sector Reforms Review Meeting with the Ministry of Mining, where the ministry presented progress on five key reform areas in Lilongwe on Tuesday.

The reform areas include improving geological and mining services, strengthening outreach in the mining sector, supporting small-scale mining industries, improving governance, and enhancing monitoring and evaluation systems.

Usi emphasized the need for the ministry to adopt a business-oriented approach and recruit exceptional officers who can drive the sector forward.

“This is a business ministry, and there is a need to properly undertake your reforms as this will help revitalize the country’s economy.You need to adopt a business unusual mentality and recruit officers who are extra-ordinary and aggressive in driving the mining sector”Usi explained.

Minister of Mining Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma commended Usi for his passion for developing the mining industry and his understanding of mining issues.

Ng’oma pleaded with the government to prioritize the mining industry by allocating sufficient funds to the ministry, which he believes has the potential to transform the country’s economy within a few months if properly supported.

African Enterprise gives Mvama primary school spiritual blessings

An international organization, African Enterprise is involving itself in evangelical outreaches reaching out to primary and secondary schools in Lilongwe City encouraging and praying to both teachers and learners that Jesus is all about life.

African Enterprise on Tuesday, visited Mvama Primary school in Chimutu Education Zone in Lilongwe Urban to encourage standard 8 learners seating for Primary School Leaving Certificate of Educations (PSLCE) to put God first for the examinations successes.

The visit had an opportunity to pray to the teachers at the school to appreciate their great job they are doing of teaching the students and pray to them to seek God’s guidance in their everyday life situations they are meeting at school and after school.

Speaking in an interview, Evangelist Shadreck Moyo, said African Enterprise has been involved in outreach evangelism which started from the Easter festivities and are ongoing till early June, 2025 targeting schools in Lilongwe City in Jesus All About campaign.

Evangelist Moyo said the evangelical outreaches has taken them to Tsabango secondary school, Ngwenya and M’buka priimary schools, among others, before coming to Mvama school with the word of God and praying for them.

He said they are visiting schools to share the love of God that Christ is the only hope of life and God can give them the grace and success if they put him first assuring the students and teachers that there is nothing impossible with God.

“We are going around meeting people to trust God and God will lead their lives in their teaching and learning activities,” said Evangelist Moyo.

He said African Enterprise is in 12 countries which include Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda and Ghana, among others, and has been around in Malawi implementing the business of sharing the word of God with a vision of transforming lives through an empowered church.

Evangelist Moyo said African Enterprise is working with churches in evangelizing cities of Africa in partnerships saying the church is very critical in their assignment of reaching out many people that Christ is the only hope of life.

African Enterprise came to Malawi in 1986 through Evangelist the late Steven Lungu as its team leader and currently, Dr. Cornelius Huwa is its team leader, he is also a Reverend of the Revival Life Church and he is the organization’s Chief Executive Officer.

President Chakwera awards Senior Counsel titles to 13 eminent lawyers

President Lazarus Chakwera has awarded the prestigious title of Senior Counsel to 13 distinguished lawyers in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the legal profession in Malawi.

The awardees were selected based on a recommendation from the Honours Committee of the Malawi Law Society.

The recipients of the Senior Counsel title are Mr. Kamudoni Nyasulu, Mr. Ralph Mhone, Mr. Maziko S. Phiri, Ms. Emily Makuta, Hon. Titus Mvalo, Mr. Pempho Likongwe, Hon. Thabo C. Nyirenda, Mr. James Masumbu, Ms. Innocentia Otto, Mr. Marshal Chilenga, Mr. Garton Kainja (posthumously), and Mr. Alex Nampota (posthumously).



This esteemed title is a testament to the awardees’ dedication, expertise, and commitment to upholding the highest standards of the legal profession.

The Senior Counsel title is a mark of distinction that recognizes the recipients’ outstanding contributions to the development of law and justice in Malawi.

In a ceremony marking the occasion, President Chakwera congratulated the awardees on their achievement, highlighting the importance of their work in shaping the country’s legal landscape. The President emphasized the critical role that lawyers play in promoting justice, rule of law, and good governance in Malawi.

The Malawi Law Society, which recommended the awardees, praised President Chakwera for recognizing the contributions of these eminent lawyers.

The Society noted that the Senior Counsel title is a well-deserved recognition of the awardees’ exceptional skills, knowledge, and commitment to the legal profession.

The awarding of the Senior Counsel title to these 13 distinguished lawyers is a significant milestone in the history of Malawi’s legal profession.

It underscores the importance of recognizing and celebrating excellence in the legal field and serves as an inspiration to young lawyers in Malawi.
