Chimwendo Urges Public to Re-Elect President Chakwera for Continued Development

Richard Chimwendo Banda, the Chief Whip of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has called on Malawians to vote for Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in the upcoming elections to ensure continuity in national leadership. 

Chimwendo Banda made these remarks during a meeting organized by Lilongwe City South West legislator, Honorable Msungama, at Kaliyeka Sports Ground in Lilongwe.

He emphasized that Dr. Chakwera deserves another term to build on the foundations he has laid, including the construction of high-quality roads, promotion of climate-smart agriculture, support for large-scale farming, national unity, and improved access to higher education. 

Chimwendo Banda also assured that the MCP will continue to advocate for peace, particularly during political rallies, and will encourage Malawians to remain united rather than divided.

MCP’s Gotani Hara Urges Nkhatabay Voters to Back Party, Citing Development Gains

Speaker of the National Assembly and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Vice President Catherine Gotani Hara has called on Nkhatabay residents to support the MCP in the September 16 general election, pointing to development projects as proof of the party’s commitment. 

Addressing a rally at Mkumbira Resource Centre in Nkhatabay Central, Hara listed national road upgrades and the establishment of mega farms as key achievements, emphasizing that Nkhatabay has also benefited from visible improvements.

“You have witnessed what the MCP can deliver. We are the party that brings real change,” she said, cautioning voters against falling for opposition promises. 

Hara also advised aspiring MCP candidates to remain humble and engage closely with communities, specifically urging Ian Changa Kaunda, the party’s shadow MP for Nkhatabay Central, to demonstrate respectful leadership. 

Kaunda, in his remarks, vowed unwavering loyalty to the MCP and encouraged voters to keep the party in power, stating that Malawi is progressing under its governance. 

Senior Chief Mkumbira echoed the sentiment, citing local developments, including a major water project, as evidence of the area’s transformation under the current administration.

Msungama hails Chakwera for the development activities in his constituency

Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe City South East who is currently aspiring for the newly demarcated Mlodza Constituency,  Honorable  Ulemu Msungama has commended the current government of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for the development activities across his constituency.

Speaking to multitudes of people at Kaliyeka school ground in Lilongwe on  Sunday during a political rally which the MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda organized,  Msungama said Chakwera led government has for the first time in his constituency constructed  hospital and women are now not  suffering as at was with the previous governments.

He also thanked President Lazarus Chakwera for the construction of Chipasula ring road as it used to be dirty and mad during rainy season and now it the main entrances for his constituency, roads have been constructed.

“President Lazarus Chakwera has brought an ICT centre right now youths are benefiting including that citizens now are receiving money through NEEF loans amounting to MK100,000 thousands, this has never happen but President Lazarus Chakwera has made that possible,” Msungama said.

On the part of bursary among school going students, Msungama praised President Lazarus Chakwera for honoring students with these loans highlighting that now students are now getting money to support their education.

FDH Bank Plc highest value counter on MSE

FDH Share price closed at K458.61 as of Friday, 11 July 2025, reaching K3.2 Trillion Market capitalisation on the Malawi Stock Exchange.

FDH Bank Plc registered a profit after tax of K74 Billion in the year ended 31 December 2024.

At its 2025 Annual General Meeting, FDH Bank Plc Managing Director Noel Mkulichi attributed the bank’s growth to a combination of strategies mainly on targeted customer focus, staff empowerment, operational efficiency, and innovation.

“In 2024 the environment was very challenging, but we took up the challenge and that is what drove this strong performance,”.

“And looking ahead, staff development is one of our strategic pillars. That means upskilling our staff but also relying on their commitment.”

Background

Earlier in the year, FDH Bank Plc released in the newspapers an updated cautionary statement on its plans to go international and the state of negotiations made in its quest to acquire a controlling stake in a bank within the African region.

The Bank released a profit warning in June advising that its profit after tax for the period ending 30th June 2025 is expected to be between 107% and 118% higher than the one reported for the previous corresponding period.
The profit after tax for the period ending 30th June 2025 is expected to close within the range of K57.8 billion to K60.8 billion while for the previous corresponding period ending 30th June 2024 the Bank made a profit of K27.9 billion.

President Chakwera attends consecration of Bishop Kalonga

President Lazarus Chakwera has joined thousands of congregants at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe for the consecration of the Right Reverend Canon Daniel Kalonga as the 4th Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi.

The consecration mass and sermon were led by the Most Reverend Dr. Albert Chama, Archbishop of the Province of Central Africa, who lauded Bishop Kalonga’s spiritual dedication.

Bishop Kalonga, born on May 7, 1980, in Buzi Chimbwanda Village, Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi, becomes the fourth bishop to lead the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi.

With qualifications in Higher Management, Bishop Kalonga has served the church as a Parish Priest and Vicar General, bringing both spiritual depth and administrative experience to his new role.

During a courtesy call at Sanjika Palace, Bishop William Mchombo, representing the Anglican Council of Malawi, praised President Chakwera’s unwavering support for religious institutions and his commitment to infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and women’s initiatives.

President Chakwera emphasized the importance of equipping Malawi’s youth with the right tools, skills, and opportunities to drive the nation forward.

The President’s presence at the consecration ceremony underscores his administration’s commitment to faith and community development.

As Bishop Mchombo noted, “When a leader walks with the people, the people walk with him,” highlighting President Chakwera’s leadership as a blend of humility and vision.
