A Local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) –Fight Aids Malawi (FAM) says it was established with a strong commitment to expand access to SRHR and HIV prevention and treatment services for women, girls and children in Malawi.

FAMs approach integrates innovation and community-led programming to address structural barriers that impede the marginalized groups from accessing necessary HIV services in some of the districts it is implementing the interventions.

Updating the District executive committee (Dec) in Dowa, FAMs Project Coordinator Annie Kachigamba, said the organization is in Balaka, Lilongwe, Dowa, Rumphi and Karonga districts saying in Dowa, they are at Chankhungu health centre, Mponela Rural Hospital and Chinkhwili Health Centre.

Annie Kachigamba-the project is supporting youth friendly health services.

Kachigamba said the key activities of the project include capacity building for HealthCare Workers and youth on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) and rights, providing resources and suppliers for SRHR interventions.

She said the project is supporting Youth Friendly Health Services (YFHS) outreach services and building capacity to communities that they know and understand the need to reform the abortion law, among others, in Dowa district.

The officer said on strategies to implement the project, FAM has trained service providers in Youth Friendly Health Services, adolescents and youth in SRHR and supporting with SRHR resources e.g youth recreation materials, and drugs like misoprostal.

“The project is providing support towards Youth Friendly Health Services outreach clinics and conducting community engagement meetings,” said Kachigamba.

She said the project is supporting adolescent and youth SRHR education circles and working with survivors of unsafe abortion by building capacity on advocacy and SRHR in Dowa district and the other districts it is implementing the interventions.

In his remarks, Dowa District Council’s Director of Administration Thomas Mwafongo, thanked FAM for being in the district implementing interventions for women, girls and children appealing to partners in health components to support the project to meet its intended outcomes.

However, Mwafongo said the project has some grey areas which need the Technical Working Group (TWG) to work out for it to be implemented in the interest of all in the district advising the organization to present the project in next month’s Dec meeting.

Malawi’s innovative tablet-based learning initiative, Building Education Foundation Through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT), is transforming the country’s education landscape. The program, which aims to improve literacy and numeracy skills among primary school students, has been hailed by communities in Dedza for its potential to boost attendance and reduce absenteeism.

BEFIT’s impact is expected to be significant, with the program targeting 3.8 million students across 6,000 public primary schools by 2029. The initiative is part of Malawi’s efforts to invest in 21st-century human capital and achieve its development goals by 2063.

The program’s tablet-based learning platform provides students with interactive and engaging educational content, helping to build a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy. By increasing access to education, BEFIT aims to reach all public primary schools in Malawi, ensuring that every child has access to quality education, regardless of their location or socio-economic background.

Community engagement and support are crucial to BEFIT’s success. Local leaders and parents are playing a vital role in ensuring the program’s smooth implementation and sustainability. The Ministry of Education has emphasized the importance of community engagement, saying that community commitment gives them hope for the program’s success.

The program has already been rolled out in 31 primary schools in Dedza, with plans to expand to more schools in the future. As Malawi continues to invest in education, initiatives like BEFIT are poised to make a lasting impact on the country’s education landscape.

Human Rights Advocator Charles Ben Longwe, has told UDF President Atupele Muluzi that Malawians did not give up on the UDF advising him to come out and join Malawians in a quest to liberate their country from the shackles of MCP dictatorship.

Ben Longwe said Malawians are all aware that the UDF fought hard to champion democracy in the country to the declaration in 1994 that never and ever shall Malawi go back to one party state and dictatorship through Dr. Bakili Muluzi.

Atupele Muluzi

He said it is sad that Dr. Bakili Muluzi and Atupele Muluzi still breathing Oxygen outside, they are witnessing the hard-won democracy going to the grave without them standing up to defend the democracy the party championed in 1994.

Speaking through an audio clip from his home in Nkhatabay, Ben Longwe said he did not come to speak seeking financial resources from government or opposition parties but joining Malawians with a strong call to “WAKE-UP!!! Malawi is sinking into the grave.

Ben Longwe has advised Atupele Muluzi that he is not alone in the country and behind him there are many Malawians with trust that in him there is leadership the country is lacking and coming out once in a month as what he did in Salima addressing whistle-stops rallies, is not enough.

He has appealed to the youths in the UDF to wake-up and have courage to defend the country’s hard-won democracy warning them that if they keep on sitting down and watching President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera continue destroying the country, they will wake up one day only to see that their country is sold to the highest bidders.

The Advocator has accused MCP Publicity Secretary Dr. Jessie Kabwila of warning leaders of other opposition parties who have court bail in their pockets that as the country is going towards elections in September, 2025 they should expect arrests.

He said what Dr. Kabwila said should not come from her being a cabinet Minister observing that those words were supposed to be said party by a District Governor reminding Dr. Kabwila that Kamuzu Banda tried to rule the country for life but he is smelling dust in the grave, assuring her that change is coming.

“We did not vote for God but a leader and we did not vote for Chakwera to be God for us to fear him, Malawi is our country and no one from outside will come to liberate the country,” said Ben Longwe.

He said President Chakwera after knowing that he has failed to fulfill campaign promises, he wore Area 30 Police uniform and start arresting people particularly those from opposition parties including following up on whatsAPP messages threatening and intimidating people.

Ben Longwe said if Chakwera wore a suit of promises as was in 2018, 2019 and 2020 by today, he would not have any competitor and all Malawians could have joined him singing “Boma ndilomweli silikuchoka” but because he is a leader with no vision, he will perish on 16th September, 2025 Presidential Elections.

Political activist Bon Kalindo has praised Madam Mary Chilima, widow for the departed Vice President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima, as a woman who is strong and has courage to silence all including President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Kalindo said Mary Chilima took a strong brick and throw it to President Chakwera, his Vice Dr. Michael Usi, MCP Cabinet Ministers and Malawians watching televisions that he invited President Chakwera to SKC Foundation launch for a purpose of telling him the truth that she is not satisfied with circumstances surrounding the death of her husband in the Chikangawa forest on Monday, 10th June, 2024.

He said it was not surprising to see that President Chakwera who was the guest of honor at the launch failed to deliver his speech and immediately started walking out before the National Anthem was played to mark the end of the function.

The activist has claimed that President Chakwera had he known that the function was prepared for him to hear the words of justice, he would not have gone there saying he even lost his way out and was directed by his security details the right direction to take.

In her speech, Madam Mary Chilima said she continue to mourn and seek convincingly answers as to why such a visionary, hard-working, humble, patriotic, peace-loving, and prayerful son of the soil had to die in such circumstances.

“There are still many unanswered questions regarding those 24 hours and so far, efforts to address these concerns have fallen short of being satisfactory,” reads an extract from Mary Chilima’s speech.

She said despite that she recognizes Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima now transcends earthly worries and that through the SKC Foundation, the legacy of Dr. Saulosi Chilima remains alive, unstoppable, and undefeated.
Activist Pastor Moses Shumba has praised Mary Chilima for being a true activist out of all activists in Malawi congratulating her for inviting those that took a hand in killing her husband to come to the launch to be thanked for the actions they did.

Pastor Shumba has referred Mary Chilima as a woman in the Holy Bible-Ester Chapter 5 verse 3 that those who organized the plane to crash were known claiming that she wanted to invite them in person to explode her bombshell of concerns without answers.

“God bless Mary Chilima for praying with faith, it was good to invite President Chakwera and his MCP to share her concerns equally as those of Malawians,” he said.

Pastor Moses Shumba has finally said Malawians will not stop speak on circumstances surrounding Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s death and eight others in fear of police arrests saying if it is to arrest, let Madam Mary Chilima be arrested for telling President Chakwera in person that she is not satisfied.
