The Zomba Police Service has made a significant breakthrough, apprehending 11 individuals suspected of committing various crimes, including burglary, theft, malicious damage, receiving stolen property, possession of petroleum products without a license, and possession of cannabis sativa without a permit.
The arrests were made during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the district’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on May 14, 2025. According to Inspector Patricia Sipiliano, the Zomba Police spokesperson, the operation was a result of thorough investigations following numerous reports of break-ins and theft in areas like Chinamwali and Matawale.

The police recovered stolen items, including two plasma screens, a Lenovo laptop, and other goods. Inspector Sipiliano emphasized the police commitment to ensuring community safety and security, stating, “We take all reports of crime seriously and will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice.”
The arrest has brought relief to Zomba residents, who had been living in fear of the criminal activities. The community appreciates the police efforts and hopes the suspects will face the full force of the law.
The police operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing in combating crime. The suspects are in police custody and will appear in court soon to face charges related to their alleged crimes.
