Name shame: Pastor Mboro denied entry into Malawi

By Twink Jones Gadama

South African pastor Paseka Motsoeneng, popularly known as Pastor Mboro, has been denied entry into Malawi due to his surname, which is considered obscene in the country’s cultural context.

The pastor, who is known for his flamboyant lifestyle and claims of performing miracles, had planned to take his Incredible Happenings Ministry to Malawi to spread the word of God.

However, it appears that Pastor Mboro’s name has become a major stumbling block in his mission to win souls in Malawi.

Prophet Mboro

According to sources, the pastor’s surname, “Mboro,” is considered a taboo word in Malawi, and its mention is likely to spark snickers and embarrassment.

“It’s unfortunate that Pastor Mboro’s name has become a hurdle in his mission to evangelize in Malawi,” said a source familiar with the matter. “The word ‘Mboro’ has a completely different connotation in Malawi, and it’s not something that people would take seriously.

In fact, it’s likely to be met with ridicule and embarrassment.”

The decision to deny Pastor Mboro entry into Malawi was reportedly made by the country’s immigration authorities, who were concerned that the pastor’s name would distract from his message and create an embarrassing situation for all parties involved.

While some have expressed disappointment and frustration over the decision, others have applauded the authorities for taking a stand and upholding the country’s cultural values.

“It’s not about being intolerant or discriminatory,” said a Malawian citizen. “It’s about respecting our culture and traditions.

If Pastor Mboro’s name is considered obscene in our context, then it’s only fair that he is not allowed to evangelize here.”

The controversy surrounding Pastor Mboro’s name has sparked a heated debate about cultural sensitivity and the importance of respecting local traditions and values.

While some have argued that the pastor’s message should be separated from his name, others have countered that the two are inextricably linked.

As the debate rages on, Pastor Mboro’s plans to evangelize in Malawi remain uncertain.

However, one thing is clear: the pastor’s name has become a major obstacle in his mission to spread the word of God in Malawi.

In a statement, Pastor Mboro’s ministry said that they were “saddened” by the decision and were exploring alternative options for evangelizing in Malawi.

However, it remains to be seen whether the pastor will be able to overcome the hurdle of his name and achieve his mission in Malawi.

Phalombe secondary school alumni have embarked on a philanthropic mission to support their alma mater.

The group, driven by a sense of nostalgia and a desire to give back to their community, has set its sights on delivering 200 mattresses to the school by the end of the month.

The group has attached a budget of approximately K1.5 million to support the delivery of the mattresses.

According to the group’s spokesperson, Robert Nazwitwere, the decision to provide mattresses was motivated by the desire to create a conducive learning environment for the students.

“We are committed to supporting our alma mater in any way we can,” said Nazwitere. “We believe that by providing these mattresses, we can help improve the overall quality of life for the students and enable them to focus on their studies.”

In addition to the mattress donation, the group is also planning to visit the school to assess the state of the infrastructure.

The visit, which is scheduled to take place later this month, will provide the group with an opportunity to interact with the students and appreciate the extent of the work that needs to be done.

“We are particularly concerned about the state of the sewer system at the school,” said Booker Matemvu ,a senior Executive member for Phalombe seconds school alumni. “We have been informed that the students are currently using pit latrines, which is unacceptable. We plan to use our visit to assess the situation and determine the best course of action to take.”

The group’s efforts have been met with enthusiasm from the school administration, which has expressed gratitude for the support.

“We are extremely grateful to the alumni group for their generosity and commitment to our school,” said Ideas Tembo, the school’s French teacher. “Their support will go a long way in improving the lives of our students, and we look forward to working with them to address the challenges facing our school.”

The alumni group’s philanthropic mission is a testament to the power of community and the importance of giving back.

As the group works tirelessly to support their alma mater, they are inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and make a positive impact on their communities.

“We believe that everyone has a role to play in supporting the development of our communities,” said Mavuto Gadaga ,an alumnus “We hope that our efforts will inspire others to take action and make a difference in the lives of those around them.”

As the group prepares to deliver the mattresses and visit the school, they are calling on others to join them in their mission.

“We need all the support we can get,” said Matemvu. “We urge anyone who is interested in supporting our cause to get in touch with us. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of these students.”

Zambia-Malawi Bus crashes in Rufunsa: Passengers escape unhurt

By Burnett Munthali

A Zambia-Malawi bus traveling from Lusaka to Chipata was involved in an accident on Monday afternoon along the Great East Road near the Rufunsa area, as reported by Radio Breeze FM Chipata.

The incident, which could have ended in tragedy, fortunately saw all passengers escape unhurt.

According to an eyewitness account, the bus driver swerved abruptly to avoid an oncoming truck and trailer, causing the bus to veer off the road and crash.

The Great East Road, a critical link between Zambia and Malawi, is known for its winding stretches and high traffic volumes, making it prone to accidents.

The quick response by the bus driver, though resulting in the crash, likely saved the lives of passengers, preventing a potential head-on collision that could have been fatal.

Eyewitnesses and first responders described a scene of panic as passengers, startled by the impact, rushed out of the bus.

However, it was soon confirmed that there were no casualties or serious injuries, bringing relief to those on board and their families.

Emergency response teams arrived promptly to assess the situation, ensuring that all passengers were safe. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the accident, with initial reports suggesting that reckless overtaking by the oncoming truck may have played a role.

The Great East Road remains one of Zambia’s most treacherous highways, with accidents frequently occurring due to:

Reckless driving – Overtaking on blind spots and high speeds contribute to collisions.

Poor road conditions – Some stretches of the road have potholes and uneven surfaces, making navigation difficult.

Heavy traffic – The road serves as a major trade route between Zambia and Malawi, with numerous trucks, buses, and small vehicles traveling daily.

Wildlife crossings – Certain parts of the road pass through game reserves, where animals crossing unexpectedly can lead to accidents.

This accident serves as yet another wake-up call for authorities to enhance road safety measures, including:

1) Stronger traffic enforcement – Increased patrols and strict penalties for reckless driving.

2) Road infrastructure upgrades – Widening of the road and installation of more warning signs in accident-prone areas.

3) Emergency response enhancements – Faster medical assistance for accident victims.

4) Driver education and training – Ensuring that drivers, especially those operating heavy-duty vehicles, are well-trained on defensive driving techniques.

While the Zambia-Malawi bus crash in Rufunsa could have had devastating consequences, the fact that all passengers survived unscathed is nothing short of miraculous.

This incident underscores the importance of responsible driving, improved road safety regulations, and continued vigilance from both drivers and road users.

Authorities must act swiftly to prevent future tragedies, ensuring that such near-misses do not turn into fatal disasters on Zambia’s busy highways.
