Acoustic Musician Joseph Sita appeals for support

By Vincent Gunde

Acoustic Musician who formed a two- man Umodzi Band Josephy Sita, has appealed to the Government of Malawi and well wishers to find ways of alleviating the pain and sufferings local artists are sailing through in the country beside of their potential talent.

Sita has observed that most local artists are dying poor besides their pieces of music circulating in the country making fun in many households but they get zero Kwacha after spending days composing pieces of music for the people.

Sita wants to emulate the success of veteran Giddes Chalamanda -pictured

He said he would have loved if President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera invite him to the State House to share his concerns as well as those of fellow local artists expressing doubts that the President is not aware of their sufferings because he has said and done to them, nothing.

Captured at Mgona Township in Lilongwe where he is used to mesmerizing fans with his gospel and social pieces of music, Sita said he charge K500 for every piece of music played but not all pay the amount and as a result, he accepts any money provided he has something in his pockets.

Sita who plays guitar, foot drums and other musical instruments accompanying his pieces of music alone, is joined by his sister Rose, who has an excellent voice demanding established musicians to get contacts for her, she is a beauty to watch.

Josephy Sita said with the little money they get from their shows, they are able to buy food and pay house rentals at Bagdad in Aea 49-Lilongwe saying what they want most is not advertising their pieces of music to be played on the radio but invitation to perform anywhere in Malawi.

“What we are looking for is exposure for our talent to reach out to many with or without our music played on the radio,” said Rose Sita.

The two acoustic musicians are being seen every day in trading centres performing their music together with some suspecting them as married couples but Rose, has dismissed this assertion as not true, saying the two, are a brother and sister from the same family.

Josephy and Rose Sita have assured their fans that they will remain acoustic musicians with or without support but they are praying hard each and every day so that well wishers including President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera can come to their rescue for their talents to bear fruits.

For those wishing to contact them, they can be reached through their mobile phones as follows: Josephy Sita 0990260217 and Rose Sita 0981365520, stay blessed.

Vice President, Dr. Michael Usi, has called for fairness and transparency in the distribution of food relief under the Lean Season Response in Chikwawa District.

Addressing a gathering at Chikwawa Primary School on Friday, Usi emphasised that hunger knows no boundaries and must be addressed equitably.

“We are all here because of hunger. Hunger sees no party colours, tribe, or anything, it affects anyone. Therefore, everyone eligible to receive the maize should receive it,” said Usi.

The Vice President further issued a stern warning to district officials, urging the District Commissioner to take disciplinary action against any officers involved in unfair practices during beneficiary registration.

According to Alinafe Kamdonyo, a representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) Cluster Coordinator for Nsanje and Chikwawa Alinafe Kamdonyo, 5.7 million people across Malawi have been affected by El Niño and WFP will reach 2 million people.

“In Chikwawa alone, WFP, in collaboration with World Vision and the District Council, is providing monthly maize distributions to 85,441 households over a five-month period,” she said.

District Commissioner Nardin Kamba echoed the Vice President’s concerns, adding that the district has faced compounded challenges.

“The El Niño effects have come on top of Cyclone Freddy, impacting the entire district.
We are, however, thankful to the government. Beyond the Lean Season Response, over 14,000 people are benefiting from Mtukulapakhomo programme, and more than 27,000 are receiving wages through the Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme,” said Kamba.

Both Usi and the District Commissioner urged beneficiaries to prioritise using the food for their families’ needs to ensure it lasts during this critical period.
