Kalindo admits MCP will win if opposition alliance does not include DPP

By Vincent Gunde

Political activist Bon Kalindo and Karonga boys, says the opposition parties electoral Alliance without the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is a passport for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) with its vote rigging scheme to rule the country to 2030.

Kalindo has advised the DPP to forget that it is the biggest opposition party in Malawi and it can go to the polls with a presidential candidate and running mate from within the party to claim victory on the 16th September, 2025 elections.

He said hearing that opposition parties in the names of AFORD, UDF, UTM and Peoples Party are meeting for possible Alliance ahead of the September, 2025 elections, is good news to all patriotic Malawians and activists that have been praying for the MCP to be out of government.

Opposition Leaders Chihana, Muluzi and Kabambe

Speaking through an audio clip, Kalindo has advised opposition party leaders to forget about personalities and fear of unknown within their parties saying Malawians are praying very hard for the country to have a strong Alliance to remove the MCP out of government.

Kalindo said the MCP is building up its rigging scheme ferrying people in hired buses and lorries from all parts of the central region to Lilongwe at the State House to wine and dine with President Chakwera with voter registration certificates in their hands for scanning.

He said it is heartbreaking to note that Mec which is mandated to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible elections in Malawi and the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) are quiet speaking nothing of the vote rigging scheme happening at the State House in Lilongwe.

The Activist has claimed that apart from Malawians going to the State House, foreign nationals particularly from Rwanda and Burundi are also part of the MCP vote rigging scheme forgetting the trauma they suffered when their containers were confiscated and forfeited to government during the relocation exercise to Dzaleka Camp in Dowa.

“Malawi citizens living in the diaspora are being denied voter registration while foreign nationals within Malawi have joined the choruses of Boma ndilomweli silikuchoka,” said Kalindo.
On his part, Karonga Boys has urged Malawians to disregard the Alliance of AFORD, UTM, UDF, and PP saying this Alliance is not for the common good of the citizens that are praying very hard to be out of the crocodile mouth.

Karonga Boys said the Alliance formed minus the DPP and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is not for Malawi but for the leader’s pockets and their families, friends and relatives saying the way the country has reached today, it needs an old wood to extinguish the fire, that’s only Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to bring back the proven leadership.

He has claimed that the country has reached a boiling point today that people have no hope for tomorrow because of youthful leaders such as Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, Enock Kamzingeni Chihana, Dr. Joyce Banda, and Atupele Muluzi saying it is sad to learn that these very same leaders are advocating for change of leadership in Malawi excluding the DPP.

“The country’s economy is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), this demand a very big wood for the economy to come back alive not these youthful leaders,” said Karonga Boys.

Youth Alive Mchinji expresses concern about gambling activities in Malawi

A youth-based organization, Youth Alive Mchinji, says it is deeply concerned about the negative impact of the increasing gambling activities in Malawi which have contributed significantly to worsening poverty levels in the country.

The organization said while it acknowledges that gambling is a legally recommended industry governed by the Gaming Act of 1996, it is alarmed by the growing number of gambling companies and their adverse effects on the society and national development.

It said the Malawi Gaming Board is responsible for regulating gambling activities and has repeatedly warned citizens to engage in responsible gambling as a recreational activity rather than a source of income.

Luciano Milala-gambling has now become the people’s quick source of income in Malawi.

In a statement dated 5th April, 2025 signed by Luciano Milala, the Youth Alive Mchinji said gambling has become a serious social and economic threat, with many Malawians spending excessive amounts of time and financial resources on betting instead of engaging in productive activities.

The Youth Alive Mchinji said it has observed with a great concern that the rise in gambling companies has made it easy for individuals including vulnerable groups, to participate in excessive gambling, leading to severe financial ruin.

The organization has claimed that many people have fallen into poverty due to gambling addiction, losing their savings, assets, and livelihoods, saying some have resorted to illegal activities, including fraud and theft to sustain their gambling habits, resulting in imprisonment and broken families.

It said gambling-related distress has led to mental health issues, and in extreme cases, suicide observing that several countries have imposed strict regulations on gambling to protect their citizens saying strong regulatory frameworks can help mitigate the negative impact of gambling on society.

“We urge the Government to amend gambling laws to impose stricter regulations limiting the number of gambling companies in Malawi and strengthen regulatory oversight to ensure only reputable and responsible operators are licensed,” reads the statement in part.

The Youth Alive Mchinji has called for restrictions on excessive gambling advertisements across                                       all media to prevent the glorification of gambling as a financial solution urging the government to introduce awareness campaigns on the dangers of excessive gambling while promoting alternative economic empowerment initiatives, especially for young people and vulnerable groups.

The organization said enforcement of responsible gambling policies must also be enhanced to ensure companies comply with ethical standards and provide adequate support for individuals struggling with gambling addiction.

It says gambling should not be a stumbling block to national development saying it must be tightly controlled to prevent further socio-economic damage, calling upon the government, law makers, and relevant stakeholders to take immediate action to address this growing crisis before it further undermines the country’s progress.
