From the Political Microscope of Ntcheu

It is of much interest, pleasure and confidence to Malawi Congress Party(MCP) in its entirety as more districts in the country continue to make choices and revelations ahead of 2025 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government elections.

Ntcheu is the latest district to express unquenchable determination to continue siding and re-electing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera next year.

People of Ntcheu continue to speak volumes as they are flocking in large numbers to register in the second phase of the Malawi Electoral Commission(MEC) exercise.

According to spontaneous interviews in several parts of the Central Region district, President Chakwera and entire MCP are at hearts of many.

Attempts to dig deeper and find out the instrumental man behind such hopeful scenes, it is established that Reverend Mwai Kamuyambeni-MCP Shadow Member of Parliament(MP) for Ntcheu Dzonzi-Mvai is the man of the moment in the area as his political creativity of using Public Address System to woo many areas to register has attracted multitudes to register to reusher MCP in power.

Here is the observation;

“Kamuyambeni is taking the mobilisation game to every vertice of the constituency in support of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and entire Malawi Congress Party. His job is commendable indeed.”

However, a million dollar question is, why has Ntcheu decided to opt to elect MCP next year? We tried to find answers.

From the verbatisms of the constituents came out, Dr. Chakwera is a developmentally-conscious leader.

He is spreading development projects across the land as nobody’s business.

See how he is improving the national road network to improve trade and economy.

In addition to that Chakwera’s economic empowerment dreams through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) is working wonders here to institute economic freedom for us as well as an appropriate supplement to Affordable Inputs Program (AIP).

As people of Ntcheu, we are sure that food security, agricultural commercialisation and diversification are key.

As we talking talking, we have already applied for fertilisers loans.

At parliamentary level, these citizens of Ntcheu Dzonzi-Mvai have agreed to vote for Kamuyambeni.

“We are too delighted that next year, we’re bringing back our own political heavyweight Reverend Mwai Kamuyambeni.

“He left unfinished businesses. He must come back and finalise his brilliant development aspirations for our area. We are sure, with Chakwera as our President and Kamuyambeni as our Member of Parliament, Tsangano Road and Ntcheu Stadium Projects are to face the finishing line,” intensify Ntcheu people.

As our chart ends, they smilingly request:”We have two requests; the government to assist us with food as hunger has hit and to have some of our chiefs trip to the capital Lilongwe one day to appreciate the modern road infrastructure Chakwera and his government are putting in place.”

What people of Ntcheu have laid bare is a political puzzle to some ill-thinking and unpatriotic Malawians who expected that Ntcheu is to shun Malawi Congress Party following the exaggerative overpoliticisation of the June 10th, 2024 demise of the late hardworking Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.

Now, my timely advice to the leadership of Malawi Congress Party is to conduct more rallies in Ntcheu, distribute all much needed campaign materials including T-shirts, caps and zitenje to all areas, allocate more development projects in Ntcheu and above all, empower influencial leaders like Kamuyambeni.

At today’s UTM party conference, Secretary General Patricia Kaliati proudly outlined the party’s impressive growth since its formation. Kaliati reminded the delegates that UTM now boasts 42 councilors and 12 Members of Parliament (MPs), marking a significant leap from just four MPs during the 2019 elections. This surge in political representation, Kaliati noted, demonstrates the party’s increasing popularity and its expanding influence in the Malawian political landscape.

“From only four MPs in 2019, UTM has shown tremendous growth, with 12 MPs and 42 councilors today,” said Kaliati, emphasizing that the party’s rising success is a clear indication of its strength and the public’s growing support. She expressed optimism about the future, highlighting that the progress made over the past few years solidifies UTM as a key player in Malawi’s political scene.

Kaliati used the occasion to underline the importance of strong leadership in guiding the party towards future success. She emphasized the need for a leader who not only listens to the party members but also adheres strictly to the party’s constitution. “We are looking for a leader who is committed to our values, one who is able to unite us all while respecting the framework that our party is built on,” she said.

The search for leadership, Kaliati stressed, is not just about finding someone with the ability to lead but also someone who embodies the core principles of the party and is ready to take the party forward.

While the conference was expected to be led by UTM President Dr. Michael Usi, Kaliati explained that Usi’s current national duties as the State Vice President had prevented him from attending. “Although we had hoped for President Michael Usi to lead the conference, we understand that he is currently occupied with important national responsibilities,” Kaliati said. She assured the delegates that the president’s absence would not hinder the conference’s proceedings and that Usi’s leadership remains strong and unwavering.

Despite his absence, Usi’s vision for the party continues to guide the direction of the conference and the discussions taking place. Kaliati further reiterated the importance of unity within the party, especially as they look ahead to the 2025 general elections.

Kaliati’s speech reflects UTM’s determination to continue its rise and expand its reach across Malawi. With a growing number of MPs and councilors, the party is positioning itself as a viable force in the next election cycle. The emphasis on leadership qualities, unity, and adherence to the party constitution shows that UTM is committed to maintaining stability and integrity as it navigates future challenges.

Chiefs promise another landslide victory for Chakwera in Dowa

Some traditional leaders in Dowa have assured President Dr Lazarus Chakwera that he will get more than 98 percent of votes in the district compared to the previous elections, because of developments he is implementing in the district and country at large.

Speaking at Dzoole Trading centre on Thursday during President Chakwera’s stopover rally, Senior Chief Dzoole said the president, who is also a leader of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is implementing important developments which have convinced people of Dowa to entrust their faith in him, again.



These he said include road infrastructure development, good market prices for agricultural produce, health service delivery and interventions like food distribution exercises.

“Despite being a food basket, we were also affected in terms of food shortages because of recent weather patterns. But no one will die of hunger because you are distributing maize to those affected.

“As a result, if Dowa gave you 98 percent of the votes four years ago, be assured that we are targeting 100 percent in next year’s elections,” said Senior Chief Dzoole.

He also commended the president for increasing beneficiaries both under the food distribution programme and the Affordable Input Programme saying this will ensure that many people across the country should benefit.

Speaking at Kayembe Trading Centre, Senior Chief Kayembe thanked the president for bringing electricity to the area, constructing bridges, and also for the Social Cash Transfer Programme.

“A lot of ultra-poor households who cannot afford necessities are benefiting from the programme. That is why people love you.

“As chiefs, we are taking a role of making sure that people should register so that they can be able to participate in 2025 tripartite elections. In so doing Dowa can go beyond the 98 percent record,” she said.

In his remarks, Senior Chief Chakhaza during a whistle-stop tour at Bowe said the president continues to honour chiefs by considering more chiefs with an honorarium.

Traditional Authority Mponela speaking at Mponela said the president is not segregative when providing development as evidenced by country-wide projects currently underway.

He has since asked people to register.
“A good leader leads by example, that is why I have already registered and I am urging you to do the same,” he said.

Chakwera assures completion of M1 rehabilitation

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has said the rehabilitation of the M1 road will unlock numerous economic activities for many Malawians.

The president made the remarks Saturday in Dowa West in the course of whistle-stop tours he held in the district.

Speaking at Mponela Trading Centre, President Chakwera said his government committed to rehabilitate the road because of the potential the project has to improve the economic activities of communities along, and in districts connected to the M1 grid.

“Road infrastructure development is very important because it facilitates access to social amenities like hospitals, schools and markets. Dowa is one of the agro-based districts in Malawi with heavy investments in the production of crops like maize and tobacco which require markets.

“As such, farmers in the district stand to benefit a lot because the road will open up access to markets, reducing costs of transportation of commodities, hence improving profits,” he said.

Speaking at Kayembe Trading Centre, the president said development partners like the government of the United States of America also realize the importance of road infrastructure development in the country, hence committing support.

The Malawi leader then assured that construction of the M1 road will continue to progress well until completion.

However, the president said projects must speak to each other from different angles to have meaningful development.

“As we are developing road infrastructure, we are also putting similar efforts in the sectors of education, health, technology, and trade amongst others,” he said.

Dowa Ngala Member of Parliament Arthur Mabvuto Sungitsa speaking at Kabwinja and Madisi in Senior Chief Chakhaza said it is commendable how the president has committed to rehabilitate the M1 despite various natural-related emergencies the country has been facing.

He said apart from economic opportunities, the road will also help in saving lives.

“We have been having a lot of accidents and deaths along M1 road due to the poor condition it had been for a long time. But now our road will be much safer,” he said.

Richard Chimwendo Banda, who is also a parliamentarian for Dowa East said the M1 has been under the parliamentary agenda for many years, but only realised under Chakwera’s administration.

Mkaka urges prospective voters in Lilongwe to unite in support of Chakwera

Malawi Congress Party Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mpenu, Eisenhower Mkaka has urged residents of Nathenje to place their trust in President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for the continued advancement of sustainable development in the country.

Mkaka made the remarks on Saturday during the final match of the Bonanza between Nathenje Stars and Chowa Football Club, held at Nathenje Primary School Grounds in Lilongwe.

He stressed that President Chakwera is implementing various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Malawians across all regions of the country, hence the need to vote for him in the upcoming 2025 general election for such development to continue.

Mkaka also pledged to ensure that beneficiaries of the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) receive substantial benefits without falling victim to illegal fertilizer vendors who exploit farmers during the planting season.

“I am committed to ensuring that every AIP beneficiary has access to fertilizer and other farming inputs consistently.

“I urge you to report any illicit activities by these vendors so that we can effectively execute the President’s vision of ensuring food security in our constituency,” said Mkaka.

Additionally, Mkaka has announced plans to launch a K10 million Football League in January 2025 to provide the youth in the constituency with an opportunity to engage in competitive sports.

He also underscored the importance of constituents registering to vote when the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) conducts voter registration in the constituency, enabling them to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general election.

In his remarks, Senior Group Village Headman Kamundi expressed his satisfaction with the Bonanza, noting that it has significantly impacted the lives of many youths in the constituency.

“The Bonanza has indeed benefited the youths in my area who were previously idle, and I am pleased to hear about our parliamentarian’s initiative to launch a K10 million League, a commendable development,” said Kamundi.

He Commended Mkaka for his unwavering dedication and commitment to developing the constituency in various sectors such as road infrastructure, water accessibility, and youth involvement.
