Rayoni Holdings Limited granted air operator certificate by Malawi Civil Aviation Authority

The country’s top tourism, aviation and hospitality company
Rayoni Holdings Limited says it has been granted an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) by the Malawi Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA).

The company’s
Public Relations and Communications Manager Alex Splendor Ngulube says in a statement that this significant milestone marks a major achievement for RAHOL, enabling it to operate commercial air services.

“The Air Operator Certificate is a rigorous process that requires companies to demonstrate compliance with strict safety and regulatory standards set by the CAA which comply with international standards.

“The certificate is a testament to Rayoni Holdings Limited’s commitment to providing safe and reliable air transportation services to its customers,” he says.

Ngulube adds that as part of the Rayoni Holdings Limited group, Rayoni Tourism Airline will be the commercial airline brand that will operate under the AOC.

He says:”The company is now finalizing procedures for the launch of its inaugural flights, which are expected to take place in the coming months.

“The AOC will enable Rayoni Tourism Airline to offer scheduled, unscheduled and charter flights across Malawi and beyond. The airline will operate a modern fleet of aircraft, with a focus on providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers.

“Rayoni Holdings Limited is committed to contributing to the growth and development of the aviation industry in Malawi, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. Old Mutual Malawi introduces  omprehensive loan protection cover

In an effort to ensure that people are accessing loan facilities from commercial banks and other financial institutions Old Mutual Malawi on Tuesday June 4,2024 launched a product called ‘Enhanced Credit Life Assurance’.

Speaking during the product launch on Tuesday in Blantyre, Old Mutual Malawi Senior Retention and Insurance Manager Chisomo Chibwana said the facility offers benefits such as accidental death cover, funeral cover, total permanent disability cover and group critical illness cover.

She indicated that the inclusion of funeral cover under product for borrowers and immediate families lessens the financial strain and provides compassionate support during difficult movements.

“This will greatly alleviate financial stress and offer peace of mind to borrowers knowing that their outstanding loan balance will be covered in the event of death, critical illness or disability,” she said.

Chibwana said the product provides risk mitigation and loan security for lenders as the insurance policy will cover the outstanding loan balance, shielding lenders from financial loss.

Old Mutual Malawi is a subsidiary of Old Mutual plc and currently the only foreign listed counter on the Malawi Stock Exchange(MSE).

The company operates primarily in the long-term savings market.

Other services include asset management, life assurance, third-party asset management, pension fund administration and management, and property investment.

Police Sacco in savings promo

Malawi Police Service Savings and Credit Cooperative (MPS Sacco)  has launched a savings promotion to help members cultivate a saving culture.

The promotion dubbed ‘Wapsa wa Ku Victoria Falls’ will run from June 1 to Dec 20 this year.

MPS Sacco’s marketing manager Linda Jelenje said in an interview the promotion is aimed at making members embrace a saving culture.

She said: “We are encouraging people to save and at the same time grow their money because experience has shown that most Malawians do not have a saving culture.”

Jelenje said the grand prize for the promotion is a sponsored trip of one member to Victoria Falls while second prize is Defy Cooker and 210 Litres deep freezer.

The Sacco will also splash golf-shirts and flasks monthly.

She said the entry criterion is for a member to deposit a minimum of K300,000 into his or her shares account.

“The more a member deposits, the more chances of winning,” said Jelenje.

Last year, the Malawi Police Sacco also introduced a similar competition called ‘ Road to the landlord ‘ where the winner walked away with a piece of land.

Ministry of Lands hand over houses to people with Albinism

Ministry of Lands has taken a significant step by constructing 65 houses to provide secure homes for persons with albinism, aimed at maximising their security and promoting their well-being.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of a house to one of the beneficiaries in Salima District, Minister of Lands Deus Gumba emphasised government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of persons with albinism and protecting them against assault and ill-treatment.

Gumba highlighted the President’s commitment to addressing the concerns of persons with albinism and the government’s resolve to provide security, which led to the construction of these houses.

He said government has allocated resources for the project and will continue to support it, with houses being built in all regions of the country. The goal is to provide secure and comfortable homes for the majority of persons with albinism.

Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, Jean Sendeza echoed the importance of providing secure and protected homes for persons with albinism, emphasising the tangible actions being taken to fulfill this need.

Sendeza also announced plans for a factory to produce body lotion for persons with albinism, demonstrating the government’s proactive approach to addressing the specific needs of this community.

Chinsinsi Luka, a beneficiary, expressed his gratitude for the government’s support and the sense of security the new house provides. He called for similar support to be extended to other persons with albinism across the country who are in need.

Additionally, both Gumba and Sendeza encouraged the surrounding communities to continue protecting persons with albinism, emphasising the importance of equality and respect for all individuals.

NRB bringing in new innovations to improve service delivery

The National Registration Bureau (NRB) is implementing a number of innovations in order to improve service delivery.

Principal Secretary for NRB, Mphatso Sambo, said one of the innovations is the Document Tracker Software which allows Malawians to follow and track the status of their national identity (ID) cards.

Sambo was speaking in Lilongwe on Tuesday during a press briefing to update Malawians on the National Registration and Identification System (NRIS).

He said the development is important as it goes a long way in keeping up with the digital era in as far as national registration is concerned.

“We are also implementing Digital Identity Solution, Biometric Verification System and functional review to establish offices at each and every Traditional Authority (TA) across the country, among others,” he said.

In the 2023-2024 national ID outreach registration, NRB covered all the 28 districts in eight phases with each phase lasting 15 days. A total of 1,556,613 new registrants were registered surpassing the target of 1,500,000 people.

According to Sambo, the statistics do not indicate those for replacements as the figures were already in the system by the time of the exercise.

“As NRB, despite beating the target of new registrants, there are still pockets of Malawians who have turned the age of 16 but are yet to register with us,” he said.

The Bureau expects to run a mop up registration exercise from June 10 to August 2024 in order to register all those that were left out during the outreach registration and register all resident foreigners with valid documents from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.
