By Chisomo Phiri

Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda has urged judicial officers in the country to take mental health programmes seriously in order for them to serve Malawians effectively.

Mzikamanda made the call on Friday during the launch of a Wellness Programme at Eden Estates and Resort in the capital Lilongwe.

He said mental wellness play a greater role in democracy consolidation and socio-economic development of the country hence judicial officers should priotise activities such as aerobics for their health and mental wellbeing.

Mzikamanda

Said Mzikamanda:”This is a wonderful day for the judicial family to come together and celebrate wellness. Healthy mind and body are the prerequisites for job well done. So, today’s event is a basis of serving Malawians efficiently. Our coming together consolidates oneness in judicial system.”

On his part, Judge for High Court, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, said judicial work is stressful as such, the wellness retreat will give ample time for judicial officers to reflect on the impact of their job.

“Today’s retreat is a reflection on the impact of stress in our work environment. Judicial officers live in a stressful world hence introducing wellness programme helps in relaxation,” Mtalimanja said.

Law Clerk at High Court, James Mauzauza, urged judicial staff to take the retreat as an opportunity to identify issues that lead to stress in course of their work to serve the citizenry better.

Wellness Programme was first launched in 2022 in Mzuzu to provide a reflection on issues related to mental health and financial management for judicial members.

Civil beat Baka City 3-0 to climb fifth on the log table

By Durell Namasani

Civil Service United beat rookies Baka City 3-nil in a TNM Super League match played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Friday afternoon.

The hosts got their first goal just 5 minutes from kick-off through Chikaiko Batson who capitalised on a defensive error by Baka defenders inside the penalty box.

Emmanuel Savieli added the second for the civil servants seven minutes later after receiving an assist from Damiano Kunje and it ended 2-nil in the first half.

Baka City had a number of opportunities to reduce the arrears in the second half but still failed to find the back of the net with Gule Mwaisope among the culprits.

Batson completed his brace in the 70th minute after the visitors’ defence failed to clear a corner kick.

After the match, Civil’s Masiya Manda was voted man of the match.

Following the result, Civil have now moved to position 5 on the log table after accumulating 14 points, level with the defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who have a daunting task on Sunday as they host league leaders, Silver Strikers.

Baka City and Bangwe All Stars  are the only teams yet to find a win in this season’s TNM Super League and they are languishing at the bottom of the log table.
