Unveiling reasons why Dr. Dalitso Kabambe quit the DPP

By Burnett Munthali

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s departure from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was driven by a series of intertwined factors that reveal the complexities of political ambition and internal party dynamics. Here are the key reasons behind his exit:

Firstly, Kabambe harbored aspirations to become the DPP’s presidential candidate. He anticipated being directly handpicked as the successor to President Peter Mutharika (APM). However, DPP’s policy required that all aspirants be elected through a party convention, not appointed outright by APM. This policy created a significant obstacle for Kabambe, who felt his aspirations were not being addressed adequately.

Secondly, Kabambe’s discontent grew when APM announced at the National Governing Council (NGC) meeting that he intended to run for re-election in 2025. APM’s strategy involved representing the DPP in the 2025 elections with the plan to transition leadership afterward. Kabambe, frustrated by this announcement, left the meeting prematurely, unable to accept APM’s decision.

Thirdly, in his frustration, Kabambe, in collaboration with businessman Leston Mulli, initiated an underground campaign aimed at discrediting APM. This effort was intended to undermine APM’s position and elevate Kabambe’s own candidacy. However, the campaign failed to gain significant traction within the party.

Fourthly, Kabambe was linked to financing legal actions against APM to prevent him from contesting the convention. The plot was exposed when it became apparent that Kabambe had failed to pay those involved in the legal maneuvers. This exposure, highlighted by media reports involving figures like Ken Nsonda and Malata, further damaged Kabambe’s standing within the DPP.

Fifthly, after his involvement in the legal controversy was made public, Kabambe recognized that he had compromised his position within the DPP. Despite his outward show of continued support for APM, he was aware that his actions had irrevocably damaged his reputation and prospects within the party.

Sixthly, following the suspicious death of Soulos Chilima, Kabambe saw an opportunity to realign himself with the United Transformation Movement (UTM). He believed that UTM could offer a more viable platform for his presidential ambitions, allowing him to pursue his goals more swiftly than he could within the DPP.

In summary, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s exit from the DPP was a result of unmet expectations, internal party conflicts, failed covert operations, and a strategic realignment with the UTM to better achieve his political ambitions.

Donald Trump selects Senator JD Vance as running mate

By Burnett Munthali

On Monday, July 15, 2024, Donald Trump announced Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his choice for vice president, marking a significant moment in the 2024 presidential campaign. In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump praised Vance as the most suitable candidate for the role, following extensive deliberation.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump wrote.

Vance, 39, a former critic turned loyal ally of Trump, will become the first millennial to join a major-party ticket. His selection comes amid growing concerns about the advanced age of America’s political leaders. Trump’s choice reflects a strategic move to appeal to younger voters and bring a fresh perspective to the ticket.

The announcement underscores Vance’s remarkable political transformation and his alignment with Trump’s agenda. Having previously been a vocal critic of Trump, Vance’s shift to a supportive role highlights his adaptability and commitment to the former president’s vision.

A born-again Christian, Evangelist and politician Ken Msonda, has backed Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima’s family lamentation and concern that some people are using the name of the departed Vice President as a campaign tool to advance their political agenda.

Msonda said death is very painful saying he has passed through sorrowful times and seeing others taking the death of others as a playful thing, is inhuman and satanic claiming that the family did not name who are these people.

Msonda

He said opposition parties DPP and UTM are the ones that are not respecting the death of Dr. Chilima as evidenced with Candlelight Memorial Services claiming that in these, they take it as Talk Shows doing some things which cannot please the family.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Msonda has appealed to all not to take death as a playful thing advising all to give a break to Dr. Chilima’s family to mourn in peace and in dignified manner.

“I share their concern and lamentation 100 percent right, those that are celebrating today are those that were against him, those that are advancing politics through Dr. Chilima’s name are finishing themselves,” said Msonda.

But, a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala has reminded Msonda that he is a politician and his comments even if they are genuine, Malawians cannot take it as seriously.

Kamphangala has backed those that are holding Candlelight Memorial Services as doing a good thing claiming that Malawians are demanding speedy answers from government on the tragic and mysterious death of Dr. Chilima.

He said these Candlelight Memorial Services are being patronized by many Malawians regardless of their political parties saying it is wrong to be saying that DPP and UTM are gaining advantage to advance their political ambitions.

Kamphangala said while he is sharing the same concern and lamentation as Dr. Chilima’s family, government has a key to tell Malawians the truth on Dr. Chilima’s tragic death claiming that every tragic and mysterious death has a suspect or suspects.

He recalled that Malawians have been demanding three transparent and credible investigations, one for Dr. Chilima’s family and UTM, Church organizations and Civil Society Organizations (CSOS) and that of government warning government that if these investigations have not been in place, expect Candlelight Memorial Services to continue across the country.
