Lilongwe, Malawi – October 13, 2024

Renowned Malawian music duo, Symon and Kendal, lit up the stage with their energetic performance at a political rally organized by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo Banda. The rally, held in Lilongwe, attracted hundreds of party supporters eager to hear the MCP’s plans for the 2025 general elections.

As one of Malawi’s favorite musical acts, Symon and Kendal’s appearance was a major highlight of the event. The duo entertained the crowd with their signature blend of traditional Malawian rhythms and modern beats, performing some of their most popular hits. Their lively songs, which often include social and political commentary, were well-received by the audience, who danced and sang along throughout the performance.

The atmosphere was electric, with Symon and Kendal using their music to encourage unity and national pride. They even adapted some of their lyrics to reflect the party’s themes of development, peace, and prosperity, much to the delight of MCP supporters.

Speaking during the rally, Chimwendo Banda praised the duo for their contribution to Malawian culture and their role in promoting unity through music. “Symon and Kendal have always been champions of our culture and our people. We are grateful for their presence here today and for the joy they bring to Malawians through their music,” he said.

Beyond the entertainment, the rally was a platform for Chimwendo Banda to discuss the MCP’s progress and plans for the future. In his speech, he outlined the party’s focus on addressing economic challenges, improving healthcare, and providing more opportunities for the youth. He called on Malawians to remain united behind the MCP as the party continues its journey of nation-building.

The combination of powerful political messages and vibrant musical performances made the rally an engaging and memorable event. As the crowd dispersed, many supporters expressed their appreciation for the music and the party’s leadership, setting a positive tone for the MCP as it gears up for next year’s elections.

For Symon and Kendal, it was yet another successful appearance, cementing their place as a dynamic duo that bridges the gap between entertainment and social engagement. Their performance reminded everyone of the unifying power of music, even in the world of politics.

Trump or Harris? Where Do the Candidates Stand in the Polls? Major Updates from the Campaign Trail

By Burnett Munthali

As the United States presidential election approaches on November 5, 2024, the campaigns of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are intensifying. With just over three weeks left, both candidates are making last-minute appeals to voters, and polling data is becoming increasingly crucial. Here’s a breakdown of where the candidates stand in the polls and major updates from the campaign trail.

National polling averages indicate a slight edge for Kamala Harris. According to FiveThirtyEight, as of October 11, Harris leads Trump by 2.5 points, garnering 48.5% support compared to Trump’s 46%. Similarly, a polling average from 270toWin shows Harris at 49.3% against Trump’s 46.5%.

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris

Key Insights:

Firstly, Harris appears to be gaining traction among suburban voters. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that she leads Trump 47% to 41% in this demographic.

Secondly, however, Harris’s support among Black voters may be slipping. A New York Times/Siena College poll showed her support at 78%, a significant drop from the 90% support Joe Biden received in 2020.

As Hurricane Milton, a powerful Category 5 storm, made landfall in Florida, the political landscape was also flooded with misinformation. Trump faced backlash for his claims that the federal government was neglecting Republican areas after Hurricane Helene. In a response to these claims, President Biden condemned Trump’s rhetoric, calling it “un-American” and highlighting the spread of disinformation regarding disaster response.

Kamala Harris has ramped up her media presence significantly, contrasting with her earlier campaign strategy. In just a few days, she participated in several interviews, including appearances on “Call Her Daddy,” “The Howard Stern Show,” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” This surge in visibility comes amid questions regarding both candidates’ health. The White House released a memo praising Harris’s physical and mental resilience, while questions surrounding Trump’s cognitive abilities have resurfaced.

Trump has intensified his anti-immigrant rhetoric, reiterating false claims about migrants committing crimes. In recent campaign stops, he emphasized plans for mass deportation and called for the death penalty for migrants who kill U.S. citizens. Critics argue that his nativist language aligns with extremist ideologies, and research contradicts his portrayal of immigrants as criminals.

The release of Bob Woodward’s latest book, which alleges close ties between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, has created a stir. The book suggests that Trump contacted Putin multiple times after leaving office and even sent testing equipment to Russia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump’s campaign vehemently denied the claims, dismissing Woodward as “a truly demented and deranged man.”

With the election just 23 days away, both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are making strategic moves to secure voter support. Harris’s lead in the polls, coupled with potential shifts in key demographics, sets the stage for a competitive race. Meanwhile, Trump’s aggressive immigration agenda and efforts to combat media narratives indicate a heated campaign ahead. As the election draws closer, the impact of these strategies on voter sentiment remains to be seen.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has confirmed that it is still working to recover its official Facebook page, which was recently hacked by unknown individuals. This incident poses a significant challenge for the party as it seeks to maintain effective communication with the public in today’s digital landscape.

In a statement made to Zodiak this morning, DPP spokesperson Shadric Namalomba outlined the party’s efforts to restore the compromised page. He highlighted that the inability to regain access to their Facebook account could severely impact the party’s outreach, particularly in a time when digital communication is vital for political engagement and public interaction.

To address the issue, the DPP has reported the hacking incident to Facebook and is exploring multiple avenues to restore its original page. Given the sensitive political environment, the party has opted for a proactive approach by creating a temporary Facebook page. This allows them to continue disseminating important information and engaging with their supporters and the general public.

Namajomba emphasized the significance of maintaining communication channels during this period, noting that social media platforms are crucial for political discourse and public engagement. The party’s decision to establish a temporary page demonstrates its commitment to keeping constituents informed and involved despite the challenges posed by the hacking incident.

As the DPP navigates this setback, it serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities that political organizations face in the digital space. The incident underscores the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures to protect against such threats and ensure the integrity of online communication channels.

Moving forward, the DPP aims to strengthen its digital presence and resilience, ensuring that it can effectively communicate its message and maintain a connection with the electorate.
