By Burnett Munthali

On October 11, 2024, Justice Kenan Manda obtained an injunction from the High Court prohibiting lawyer Alexious Kamangila from making any statements regarding him. This legal action follows Kamangila’s recent social media posts, where he allegedly made claims about Judge Manda’s conduct in relation to his judicial responsibilities.

The injunction was issued just days after Judge Manda demanded K250 million in compensation from Kamangila for allegedly defaming him. Manda had threatened to take Kamangila to court if he failed to comply with the demand. The High Court’s decision underscores the judiciary’s commitment to protecting its officers from unfounded allegations that could tarnish their reputations.

Kamangila

According to documents reviewed by MIJ Online, Kamangila has been making statements on his social media page that imply Judge Manda has engaged in fraudulent behavior related to his duties. This has raised concerns about the ethical conduct expected of legal professionals, particularly in their public statements.

Currently, Kamangila has instructed his legal representatives to inform Judge Manda that he intends to pursue legal action regarding the issues he has raised. He argues that he should be allowed to express his concerns and maintain his stance on the matters at hand.

The court’s injunction serves as a critical reminder of the boundaries of free speech and the responsibilities that come with it, particularly for those in the legal profession. The ongoing situation highlights the tensions that can arise when public figures express allegations against the judiciary, prompting a deeper examination of the interaction between legal rights and judicial integrity.

Kalindo advises Chakwera to reflect on his leadership style

By Vincent Gunde

Political activist Bon Kalindo has advised President Chakwera to reflect on his leadership style on how he is running the affairs of his government observing that for the past two days, Malawians have been celebrating wishing him dead.

Kalindo said a great lesson must be drawn that if President Chakwera was running the country in the interest of all, Malawians could have been praying and fasting and sending messages wishing him a quick recovery in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ but this was not done.

Chakwera

He said President Chakwera and his MCP are taking Malawians for granted saying this has been evidenced with millions of Malawians celebrating in their communities, towns and cities wishing him dead but thanks the heavens, he is alive.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Kalindo has advised party leaders to check on their leadership styles and do some stock-taking on whether their supporters are loving them in good faith or not.

Kalindo said the celebrations which have been seen on President Chakwera’s health could be seen with any other party leader in Malawi as a lesson to treat their supporters in the same way as treating all other people in the country regardless of their party affiliations.

He said in what started as a propaganda with some other people spreading false information about President Chakwera’s health, Malawians reacted with jubilations that instead of crying for their beloved leader’s heath, they were all in celebrations wishing him dead.

The activist has claimed that truth to be told on Chakwera’s health, people do not want MCP in the country and President Chakwera is forcing himself to govern people that do not want him as their leader assuring him that in 2025 Malawians will teach President Chakwera that history is the best teacher on the ballot box.

“Malawians are regretting to have President Chakwera as their leader,if I were Chakwera, I would have resigned before things get worse,” said Kalindo.

He said while many Malawians were wishing President Chakwera dead, some other youth in the MCP are allegedly plotting to kill him for speaking nothing but the truth that Malawians are in pain and suffering.

Kalindo has advised those who are plotting to kill him that all will die, God has no corruption and they are wasting their time assuring them that he is more than ready to be killed according to their wishes and not God’s wishes.

October 11, marks World Porridge Day, a celebration that highlights the significance of this simple yet nutritious food in changing lives. In Malawi, porridge is more than just a meal; it’s a beacon of hope for a brighter future. For many children, a warm bowl of porridge, known locally as “likuni phala,” is the only meal they can count on daily.

The Power of Porridge

In Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, Mary’s Meals, a global charity, serves vitamin-enriched porridge to over a million children every school day.

This nutritious meal attracts children to the classroom, providing them with the energy to learn and grow.

Agness Chilima, a volunteer at Chimbewa Primary School in Malawi, has witnessed firsthand the impact of porridge on her community. “Since Mary’s Meals introduced porridge to this school, most students no longer miss classes. They perform well in class and progress to secondary school,” she shares.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

Porridge is more than just a meal; it’s a key to breaking the cycle of poverty.

By providing a reliable source of nutrition, Mary’s Meals helps children focus on their education, rather than worrying about their next meal. Elisa, a student at Chiwambo Primary School, dreams of becoming a nurse.

“The porridge keeps me from feeling hungry in class. I participate, pay attention, and do well,” she says.

Empowering Girls

World Porridge Day also sheds light on the challenges faced by young girls in Malawi.

Marriage under the age of 18 is illegal, but an estimated 46% of girls are married before turning.

Cecelia Yasin, a volunteer at Chiwambo Primary School, notes that porridge has helped reduce dropout rates among girls.

“With porridge, young girls are attracted to come to school and remain in school because they have an assurance of a meal,” she explains.

A Call to Action

As we commemorate World Porridge Day, we recognize the importance of nutrition in empowering communities. Mary’s Meals invites individuals to join their mission to provide meals to hungry children. By supporting this cause, we can help create a brighter future for Malawi’s children
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Malawi’s children, one bowl of porridge at a time.
