Group Village Headman Kaonola announced the new measures during a Theater for Development session organized by CADECOM, with funding from Irish Aid through Trocaire under its Climate Justice project. He stated that individuals found cultivating along river banks will face a fine of 50,000 kwacha.

Ilinga commended the traditional leaders for their stance against climate change, recognizing the importance of such measures in safeguarding communities from the impacts of environmental degradation.

This announcement came during the ground breaking ceremony for the project, with Deputy Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Happy Mkandawire, serving as the guest of honour.

Bushiri emphasized the critical importance of security in fostering sustainable development within communities. He called upon local residents to unite and contribute their resources towards the fulfillment of this project, which was initially conceived in 2017.

Mulanje West Member of Parliament, Yusuf Nthenda, has issued a plea to residents near Muliya Trading Centre to protect construction materials intended for a new clinic. This call to action comes on the heels of the launch of an ambitious K80 million hospital clinic project within his constituency.

During the project’s inauguration, Nthenda emphasized the critical importance of preventing theft of construction materials, citing it as a significant barrier to developing durable infrastructure across the country. He underscored that such theft not only delays progress but also inflates costs, ultimately affecting the quality and longevity of public facilities.

Bullets slapped with 2.5 million fine for violence during TNM Super League match

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have been fined K2,300,000 by the Super League of Malawi’s Disciplinary Committee for the violence that occured on June 2, 2024 during their TNM Super League match against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

According to SULOM, the club was given two counts of failure to control the actions of its supporters and bringing the game into disrepute

“FCB Nyasa Big Bullets were remorseful during the hearing and accepted the charges with ease which acted as a mitigation alongside other factors that included Bullets formal apology to Silver Strikers and the payment of K6 million for the maintenance of the bus,” reads information shared by SULOM.

The Disciplinary Committee has further recommended that SULOM should ensure that disciplinary matters should always be expedited by timely submissions of reports of incidents and to consider the need for teams to independently determine the match security marshals as per Police Act article 115.
