President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming Chipoka in Salima District into a secondary city, a vision originally conceived by Malawi’s founding president. Speaking at Chipoka Ginnery in the area of Senior Chief Ndindi, President Chakwera detailed plans to establish a vibrant economic hub complete with functional railway and water transport systems to significantly boost business activities.
The President recalled Chipoka’s history as a bustling business harbor where ships once docked and enterprises thrived. He expressed his firm determination to restore that economic vitality by bringing back passenger trains, enabling ships to dock with goods, and constructing modern roads. Chakwera revealed that a German company has already been identified to implement the ambitious project, confirming that all necessary paperwork and a detailed construction roadmap are now finalized.

Further, President Chakwera urged all Malawians to unite in support of the development initiatives his administration is implementing across the country, pledging to accelerate national development and transform lives if re-elected. Speaking on behalf of the late Senior Chief Ndindi, Senior Chief Kambwiri commended the government for its ongoing development projects in the area. He specifically praised the provision of farmers loans, which have enabled many to venture into irrigation farming and effectively address the challenge of hunger.
