President Arthur Peter Mutharika has emphasised the need for unity and stability within the Southern African Development Community. The President made the call during his participation at the virtual SADC Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government.

In a statement, President Mutharika said such regional gatherings are vital for strengthening cooperation on critical issues. He stated that the strength of SADC lies in the collective resolve of its member states to be united and development-focused.

Addressing the summit in his capacity as Chairperson for the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, President Mutharika highlighted the political tension in Madagascar. He described the situation as a matter that affects the entire region and requires an urgent resolution to restore peace and the rule of law.

The President also used the platform to thank SADC for the role it played during Malawi’s recent general elections. He expressed his sincere gratitude, stating that the organisation’s presence and support were invaluable in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
