Alliance For Democracy (AFORD) President Enock Chihana has expressed his party’s willingness to form a political alliance with any party that shares its ideologies ahead of the September 16 polls.
Speaking at a rousing political rally at Mgona ground in Lilongwe on Sunday, Chihana emphasized that his party will no longer be swayed by alliances that prioritize personal interests over the welfare of the people.
He expressed disappointment for joining the Tonse Alliance in the 2020 fresh presidential elections.
Chihana claimed that he was misled into joining the alliance and vowed not to repeat the same mistake.
On his part, the party’s President Timothy Mtambo urged Malawians not to abandon AFORD.
Mtambo said AFORD is the only party with practical policies to transform the country.
AFORD came in the political lime light in 1993 and its founder the late Chakufwa Chihana is known as one of the key fighters for multiparty democracy in Malawi.
The party has a stronghold in the northern region.
