NPL partners Malick Mnela’s ihub online tv for events live streaming

As a way of having some of its events live streamed, Malawi’s giant and award winning, newspaper, the Nation Publications Limited (NPL) has fallen in partnership with i-Hub Media Limited, an online television platform founded and owned by journalist Mallick Mnela.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held on Wednesday, NPL Production Manager Alfred Mtaula expressed optimism that the partnership will help the newspaper publishing company increase its coverage and its audience, as people will be able to view things as they happen.

“We are going to the campaign period soon, and people will be wanting such services.



“So we will be the media that takes the messages across the country,” he said.

On his part,Mallick Mnela said as a company, they feel empowered and validated for their role in providing new media narratives in the country.

Said Mnela“Through this partnership, we will unveil several world-class media solutions that will redefine the way media audiences interact with news brands such as NPL.

“We are grateful to NPL management for believing in us.”


iHubOnline is a Malawi-based start-up online media platform.

With a team of other versatile tech-savvy journalists, Mnela seeks to see iHubOnline carve a niche in serving populations that are currently underserved, under-represented and considered “unprofitable” by the traditional media.

In the long run, the start-up hopes to tackle exclusion, expand the enjoyment of digital rights, spur media and digital literacy and innovate cheaper media products to address media inequalities.

So far, iHubOnline has established itself as a niche leader in the events live streaming segment.

Being a pioneer player in its field, iHub has had the privilege to exploit emerging opportunities while learning to refine its model of operation.

The start-up is now a go to platform for in-house live video content for the country’s institutions.

It has streamed so many straight paid-for events including the one where the country’s president was present.

The start-up has also streamed content that has reached over 15,000 people yet its followers are just above 3,000.

Reunion Insurance Company Limited pumps in K3 million towards MCCCI lakeshore business summit

One of the country’s fat growing Insurance companies, Reunion Insurance Company Limited on Thursday donated K3 million towards the 2023 Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (MCCCI) Lakeshore Business Summit slated for April 27 to 29 at Sun bird Nkopola in the lakeshore district of Mangochi.

Making the cheque presentation at Reunion Insurance headquarters in Blantyre,Technical Manager responsible for claims and business development, Hastings Kapesa, said the contribution is in recognition and appreciation of the role “MCCCI plays, in providing business and economic information for decision making and creating a fora for international and local business to business transactions.

” We appreciate all works of MCCCl hence this donation. We hope this will help them a lot during their summit, ” he said.



Kapesa added that as an indigenous brand,Reunion Insurance will continue to support and work with different stakeholders in various industries to fulfil its Corporate Social Responsibility as enshrined in its business model.

Receiving the donation, MCCCI’s Head of Business Linkage and Events Linda Madalo Pete thanked Reunion Insurance Company Limited for the kind gesture and said the donation will go a long way in preparations of the business summit.

“We appreciate Reunion Insurance for accepting our call to sponsor this year’s Lakeshore Business Leaders Summit, we are highly indebted to them as they were also amongst sponsors of the 2022 Event,” she said.

Daudi calls for Faith Leaders to Fight Against Cholera

Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daudi has called on faith leaders in Malawi to take big role in the fight against cholera, stating that they are critical in the elimination of the pandemic.


Speaking on Wednesday in Lilongwe during the faith conference on cholera response organised by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and Danish Church Aid (DCA) with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Daudi emphasized the crucial of engaging the faith community in spreading key messages to their congregants.

The conference brought together over twenty faith leaders from different churches and mosques in the aim of addressing critical matters affecting the country like pandemic, outbreak, violence against women and girls and abuse of elderly people.

She said: “Faith leaders play a very big role in this country because they meet a lot of people almost every day.

“For this reason, the leaders of the churches are also critical in spreading messages to their followers aimed at fighting against cholera. However there is a need for all the faith leaders to take an active role.”

Daudi commended NCA/DCA for working closely with faith leaders in addressing various issues affecting the country.

DCA/DCA Country Director Havard Hovdhaugen emphasised the need to engage the faith community in the fight against cholera.

“If you want to bring about change, you need to have the faith community on board as they are in all parts of the country and they are able to convey key messages to the people,” he said.

Malawi Council of Churches Vice Chairperson, William Tembo, praised NCA/DCA for consistently engaging faith leaders in addressing critical matters affecting the country especially pandemics.

The government, together with its partners UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the faith community are committed to eliminating cholera in Malawi.

According to ministry of health, thousands of people have died with cholera since it erupted last year and the reports show that the number of cases are decreasing currently.

Dan Msowoya appointed personal advisor on constitution and governance to Enock Chihana

Alliance for Democracy ( AFORD) President Enock Chihana has announced the appointment of veteran politician Dan Msowoya as his personal advisor on constitution and governance.

In a statement, Chihana said, Msowoya’s appointment brings to the presidential council and the party vast political experience and institutional memory in the ongoing rebuilding and rebranding drive that the party is pursuing.

He said his appointment is immediate.

Confirming the development with local media, Msowoya said his new role will help him and the party to bring some sober outlook on the politics of Malawi which has been characterized with a lot of slander.

He added that the party will come up with an approach that is issue based with a content that is going to attract the section of Malawi which really would like to hear important issues rather than ordinary rhetoric.

Said Msowoya“I have been with the party all along from the time it was created and I have had a passion to run it properly and being one of the oldest members of the party I think I re-correct things which may have been left in the process of governing AFORD, so I offered yes to advise where I can.”

The Alliance for Democracy is a political party that marked its history as laying the foundation for multi-party rule in Malawi.

The party began as an underground political movement during the Kamuzu Banda era and later evolved to a political party during the multi-party era under the leadership of trade union activist, Chakufwa Chihana.

AFORD has a stronghold in the northern region.

Malawi nears end to fuel and forex shortages

Malawi is soon expected to have sufficient flow of forex and fuel following successful discussions which Malawi President held on Wednesday with Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs of Qatar.

Malawi for long time has a history of forex and fuel shortages because of balance of payment the country is experiencing. For example Malawi has USD1Billion trade balance.

Chakwera held bilateral talks with Dr. Khalid , on the sidelines of the LDC5 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) taking place in Doha, Qatar.

At the top of the agenda was President candid call for a line of credit to help mitigate what he called, two crippling challenges – an “acute shortage of Forex and fuel”.

President Chakwera emphasized the necessity of a line of credit to stabilize the petroleum supply chain in Malawi, adding that due to a shortage of foreign exchange, Malawi is unable to ensure stable fuel availability in the country which is invariably crippling businesses and ultimately wreaking economic havoc.

In their first ever encounter, the two leaders also discussed enhancing bilateral ties particularly in the agriculture sector where His excellency expressed the desire to export beef, vegetables, goat meat, and other products to international markets including to Qatar in 5 years’ time. To kick-start this agricultural revolution, we need to modernise our agriculture sector.

His Excellency further highlighted Malawi’s mega farms plan, as a major area for cooperation and collaboration between Malawi and Qatar in terms of Foreign Direct Investment, adding that the country is endowed with fertile land that if utilized could yield massive dividends commercially. In addition the President expressed the need to capacitate farmers and equip them with the resources and skills to generate revenue on a large scale.

Critically His Excellency made a plea to the Qatar government to support Malawi in its mechanization drive by assisting with tractors and other tractors and other processing equipment to boost production.

His Excellency asserted that in this regard the Malawi Government is taking various steps to facilitate foreign investment, such as intensifying irrigation systems citing the launch of projects such as the Shire Valley Transformation Project, which is envisaged will increase agricultural productivity and commercialization in the Lower Shire, while improving sustainable management and utilization of natural resources.

In terms of education President Chakwera implored on the Qatar Government to consider investing in a university in Malawi that would specialize in areas like architecture and agriculture in a bid to consolidate all the aforementioned initiatives and aspirations for Malawi – a country intent on becoming the next developed.

The President further thanked the Qatari Government for demonstrating commitment and supporting the LDCs grouping by pledging USD60 million towards the implementation of the Doha plan of action.
