Lions of Kaning’ina get K15 million sports sponsorship

One of Africa’s leading Insurance companies CIC Life Insurance company has pumped in K15 million Kwacha Sponsorship to Northern Region-based football club Moyale Barracks widely known as ‘ Lions of Kaning’ina to help them effectively participate in various soccer completions.

Unveiling the sponsorship at Moyale Officers Mess on Saturday afternoon, the Managing Director Chris Mugwang’a said the package is just the beginning of good things to come.

Mugwang’a challenged the football team to atleast fight for championship if not in top 5.



“This is just the beginning because as a company we also have a strategic plans that we can use in the Sponsorship. It is a close to K15 million Kwacha and we are going to sponsor in levels and stages that’s why we said we have a strategic plans, this also a motivation to the players and to the leaders as well, we set a target so that the team should atleast end in top 5 in the league, and the Sponsorship is for this season only and will extend depend on the relationship between leaders and the company,” said Mugwang’a.

In his remarks, Moyale Barracks Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Thokozani Chazema thanked CIC for coming in as the team is looking for more stakeholders to support the sports at the Barracks.

“We are grateful with the coming in of CIC, considering the fact that many companies are shunning away from sports and we are expecting a lot from the team especially in the league which we have never won, it is always an objective for Moyale to win the league and we are also expecting more goals to be scored, though we are not yet there but I challenge the team to do better to win to the championship as far as Superleague is concerned,” Chazema said.

During the event, CIC also presented a Jersey the football team as part of the Sponsorship.

Before the Sponsorship unveiling, CIC firstly partnered Moyale Barracks soldiers in the ‘Go Konko’ Fitness Challenge at Katoto Sports courts where they conducted some Aurobics and other games where people won different prizes from CIC.

CIC is the general and life insurance company that operates in four countries in Southern Africa namely Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan and Malawi.

UNIMA off-campus students sound SOS on accommodation fee

It has emerged that some off-campus students at the University of Malawi ( UNIMA) in Zomba are on the verge of withdrawing their studies at the university due to lack of accommodation in areas they are residing.

One of the concerned students Herbert Joseph who is doing Geography Science ( fourth year) at the university that God loves most told us in an interview that the accommodation fee challenge is now becoming a worst part of their daily life, hence contributing to poor performances in classes and an increase in suicide cases.



“Here at University of University of Malawi students are struggling especially us from poor family backgrounds.

“Some of the problems we are facing include lack of food, lack of money to pay rent.

“Most of us, none of our relatives can manage to pay rent and provide us with basic necessities at higher learning institutions like this. Due to these problems we see some students commiting suicide, sleeping on empty stomach and extra,” said Joseph.

He added:”For example,today, we have just raised funds to our fellow students. This student had no food, no house to reside due to lack of accommodation fee, he was sleeping together with a certain guard and the management is aware of this.”

The student said the situation is forcing some students to fall into the trap of immoral behaviors such as prostitution which puts them at a risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.

“We are at a great risk and we do not know if our future will still be bright. It’s a bad situation as some of us are stealing maize from their landlords, phones and laptops from their friends so as they can have something to survive.

“Some of our fellow students are now in prisons meaning they have been completely withdrawn from the college,” he said.

Joseph then appealed to the general public and other well-wishers to come and rescue them out of the challenge.

“If you have potential help university of Malawi students with soya pieces, flour and money.

“You can help with little that you have, it will mean a lot,” he appealed.

Students pursuing academic programmes at Chancellor College have a number of options with regard to accommodation.

All students to the college are enrolled on a non-residential basis.

The college campus includes 8 male and 18 female hostels, to which students apply for accommodation.

New twist in DPP fight, Mchacha accuses those endorsing Mutharika second term bid

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the South , Charles Mchacha has admonished a section of his party accusing them of dividing the party.

Mchacha said there are people in the party who are all over endorsing APM to stand.

Mchacha said these are the people who made DPP lose elections.

Mchacha



“What we want is democracy and currently democracy is vanishing in the party. We don’t want Behaviour of removing people from the party,” he said.

Mchacha’s press conference came a few days after the party removed him for failing to endorse Mutharika.

But a few days later, the court stopped the party from implementing the decision.

Goals galore in the TNM Super League as Bullets rout Mafco 4-nil, Dedza Dynamos beat KB 3-2

There was a goals galore in the second week of the TNM Super League as 11 goals were registered on Sunday with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets being the biggest winners beating Mafco FC 4-nil at Kamuzu Stadium

Alick Lungu opened the scoring for Bullets with a thunderous shot, almost 30 yards from Mafco’s goal just 12 minutes in the first half which was dominated by the visitors but failed to hit the back of the net.

The home side came very strong in the second half and Lanjesi Nkhoma utilized the first scoring opportunity which came from the penalty spot just five minutes in the second half after a Mafco defender handled the ball in the box.



Two minutes later Alick Lungu who was also voted man of the match completed his brace with yet another beautiful strike beating the visitor’s goalkeeper Blessings Kameza.

Nkhoma added his second and Bullets’ fourth goal in the 60th minute to complete a second half dominant performance from Kalisto Pasuwa’s team.

Bullets has now moved to second on the log table, two points behind city rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who are leading with six points from two games.

In Dedza, Dedza Dynamos beat Kamuzu Barracks 3-2 in an entertaining match played at Dedza Stadium.

Clement Nyondo, Chifundo Mpinganjira and Ibrahim Sadick were on target for the home side while Kelvin Hanganda and Chimwemwe Chisambi scored for the capital city-based soldiers.

Elsewhere, Binwell Katinji and Chifundo George scored for Civil Service United and Extreme FC respectively as the two sides shared the spoils at Civo Stadium.

In Mzuzu, Ekwendeni Hammers and Moyale Barracks played out to a goal-less draw at Mzuzu Stadium.

Red Lions, Civil Sporting and Extreme FC are some of the teams yet to register a win this season and they are pegged at the the bottom of the log table.
