Malawi’s renowned bass guitarist Godfrey ‘Yobe’ Mbizi who was a member of the legendary Manyasa Band has died.
Minister of Trade who is also manager of Manyasa Banda broke the sad news on Friday night through a Facebook post.
The former Kalimba Band member is reported to have died after a short illness.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform the nation, especially the music fraternity, that we have lost Godfrey ‘Yobe’ Mbizi after a short illness.
We join Godfrey’s widow and his children in mourning the gifted artist. Mte Wambali, recieve your bass guitarist,” reads the Facebook post in part.
Manyasa Band which was once led by Wambali Mkandawire comprised of veteran musicians Dan Sibale, Samuel Mkandawire, Collen Ali Matola, Thatcher Ng’oma, Eric Mwalwanda, Mathews Mphande, Vita Chirwa, Daniel Thom, Sangwani Munthali and late Mbizi.
The passing on of Mbizi is a big blow to the group which almost collapsed in 2021 following the death of Wambali Mkandawire.
