Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has commended Botswana President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko for accepting to visit Malawi and be guest of honour during the 61st Anniversary celebration.
President Chakwera was saying this in Lilongwe during the state Buquent organised in honour of the visit.
“But no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s game, it is absolutely right for us to have you, Mr. President, as our Guest of Honour. We honour you because you are a true son of Botswana, a great nation that has been a true friend of Malawi ever since became Republic in 1966 and ever since Botswana gets independence that same year,” he said.

The Malawi leader also said honored President Boko for his true Pan-Africanism by caring the fate of Africa continent as whole like what he always did with his country.
The President also said President Boko is a true democrat holding an office by the will of people not by military coup or rigged elections.
He also thanked President Boko for hounoring Malawi by accepting the invitation, the friendship, leardership as well as partnership as the Malawi leader believes that this will strengthen the shared value and vision between the two countries.
President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko is in the country for a three-day state visit as he is also expected to be the guest of hounor at this year’s 61st independence celebrations to be held on Sunday 6th July, 2025 at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
