By Rahim Abdul

Police in Lilongwe have arrested 32 people in connection with a brazen robbery at Central Poultry Farm in the area of Traditional Authority M’bwatalika.

The incident occurred on Monday, July 28, when a mob from Nakuwawa Village reportedly stormed the farm, threatened security guards, and made off with a significant number of chickens.

The total value of the stolen livestock is still being assessed, authorities confirm the theft involved hundreds of birds.

According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Inspector Hastings Chigalu, the looting extended into the following day, triggering a rapid police response that led to the arrest of 32 suspects

“This is unacceptable behavior. Such acts of lawlessness threaten not only business operations but also community order,” said Chigalu.

Chigalu has also added that more arrests are likely as investigations continue.

Central Poultry Farm, a major supplier of poultry products in the region, has previously not experienced such large-scale thefts.

Police say the suspects will face charges related to robbery and unlawful assembly.
