The Women in Faith (WIFA), a community group based in Chirimba, Blantyre, has extended a helping hand to Chileka Health Centre by donating essential medical supplies.
The donation was made over the weekend as part of the group’s commitment to improving healthcare services in their community.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, WIFA Chairperson, Shaereen Chilemba, said the group was motivated by the pressing challenges faced by local health facilities, particularly in maternal and child health.
“We decided to purchase essential medical items such as gloves, blood pressure testing kits, gowns, face masks, boxes for umbilical cords, and other vital supplies. It was our way of giving back to the community and ensuring that health workers have the necessary tools to serve patients effectively,” said Chilemba.

Chilemba added that this donation marks just the beginning of their mission to support Malawi’s health sector.
“Our dream is to continue providing even greater support in the future. We are committed to serving Malawians wholeheartedly and making a difference in people’s lives,” she emphasized.
Receiving the donation, Edina Billiat, a nurse at Chileka Health Centre, expressed gratitude for the timely gesture, highlighting that the supplies will go a long way in addressing some of the facility’s pressing needs.
“We are truly thankful for this donation. We face many challenges here, including a shortage of equipment to monitor newborn babies and other essential maternal health tools. This kind of support is very encouraging, and we hope other well-wishers will emulate this example,” said Billiat.
Chileka Health Centre has been grappling with limited resources, affecting service delivery to expectant mothers and children. The donation is expected to ease some of these challenges while promoting safe delivery practices.
WIFA currently has 45 active members, all hailing from the Chirimba area in Blantyre. The group focuses on empowering women spiritually and socially while engaging in charitable activities aimed at uplifting communities.
