A Malawi court has ruled in favor of Tony Fletcher, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate, upholding his election as Member of Parliament for Masanjala constituency in Chiradzulu district.
The ruling was delivered by Judge Masauko Timothy Msungama, who dismissed a petition filed by five individuals who had challenged the outcome of the election, citing irregularities and allegations of vote buying.
The petitioners, including Glory Simbota, Peterkins Demphster, Matias Chimenya, Lloyd Mwenyesi, and Rocky Chipenembe, had alleged that Fletcher had bribed voters on the day of the election.

However, the judge ruled that the petitioners had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.
Fletcher’s lawyer, Nicole Mugha, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, saying that it was a vindication of her client’s innocence.
The ruling marks a significant victory for Fletcher and the DPP, as it confirms their hold on the Masanjala constituency seat.
The case highlights the importance of evidence-based claims in electoral disputes, and underscores the need for petitioners to provide robust evidence to support their allegations.
