Ministry Mourns Passing of Water Supply Director Emma Mary Mbalame

‘Distinguished public servant’ remembered for transformative leadership in Malawi’s water sector

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development has announced the untimely death of Madam Emma Mary Mbalame, Director of Water Supply, who passed away on June 6, 2026.

In an official statement released Monday, the Ministry described Mbalame as a distinguished public servant whose dedication and professionalism earned her widespread respect across the nation’s water sector.

“Her unwavering commitment to the development of Malawi’s water sector earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues, stakeholders, and communities across the country,” the announcement read.

Throughout her career, Mbalame provided exemplary leadership in advancing access to safe and sustainable water services—work that left a lasting imprint on countless Malawian lives.

The Ministry extended heartfelt condolences to her family, relatives, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside her.

“Her passing is a great loss not only to the Ministry but also to the entire public service,” the statement said. “We will remember her for her wisdom, humility, hard work, and passion for serving the nation.”

The Ministry spoke on behalf of the Minister, the Principal Secretaries, management, and all staff members in mourning one of the sector’s most respected figures.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
