Chakwera opens MCP doors for grand comeback strategy ahead of 2030 polls

Malawi Congress Party President Lazarus Chakwera has launched a bold new open door initiative aimed at uniting party members, engaging political veterans, and strengthening MCP structures ahead of the 2030 general election.

The engagements began this week at the party headquarters in Lilongwe, with Chakwera meeting respected political veteran Grezelder Jeffrey, just days after holding talks with MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda.

Speaking in an interview today, MCP Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwira said the initiative reflects President Chakwera’s visionary leadership and commitment to listen, learn, and build a stronger party from the grassroots up.

“The MCP President is not taking anything for granted. These engagements are deliberate and strategic. He is reaching out to party members, veterans and key stakeholders to strengthen the party’s foundation so that MCP is ready and united for a powerful comeback in 2030,” Kabwira said.

Kabwira added that Chakwera has set aside every Tuesday and Thursday for scheduled meetings with grassroots structures, senior party members and veterans.

She said the open door approach shows that under Chakwera’s leadership, MCP values experience, wisdom and the voice of every member.

Political expert Dr. Augustine Magolowondo described the move as key and timely.

He noted that bringing together different generations within the party will help MCP consolidate its support base and sharpen its message ahead of the next elections.

Magolowondo urged the leadership to take all inputs seriously as they shape the party’s roadmap.

Party members who attended the early meetings praised President Chakwera for his humility and accessibility.

They said his willingness to sit down with veterans like Jeffrey and senior officials like Chimwendo Banda demonstrates the kind of inclusive leadership that made MCP the party of the people.

With the 2030 elections on the horizon, analysts say Chakwera’s open door initiative is positioning MCP as a united, listening, and forward-looking party.

The message coming out of Lilongwe is clear: MCP is reorganizing, reconnecting, and preparing to lead Malawi again.
