Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Honourable Chimwemwe Chipungu, MP, on Thursday reaffirmed government’s commitment to delivering key national projects after attending a Cabinet Committee meeting on the Mombera University Project chaired by the Right Honourable Second Vice President, Enock Kamzingeni Chihana, at his office in Lilongwe.
The meeting brought together senior government officials to review the latest developments on the project and to consider updates from the Steering Committee on the status of preparations towards its implementation.
As the minister responsible for land and infrastructure, Hon. Chipungu played a central role in providing input on land matters, spatial planning and housing support needed to ensure the university takes off smoothly.
Mombera University is one of Malawi’s most significant development projects. Once completed, it is expected to expand access to higher education, strengthen human capital development, and contribute to Malawi’s broader socio-economic transformation agenda.
The project is being championed by the Right Honourable Second Vice President following his appointment by His Excellency the State President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, to lead efforts towards advancing its development.
Hon. Chipungu’s presence at the meeting underscores his hands-on approach to service delivery.
Known for his focus on results and coordination, the Minister assured the Committee that the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development remains fully committed to supporting national development projects that deliver sustainable human development, infrastructure and improved opportunities for Malawians.
Party officials and stakeholders have commended Hon. Chipungu for his dedication and for ensuring that land-related processes do not delay projects of national importance.
They say his leadership is helping to align government ministries towards one goal of development and service to the people.
The Cabinet Committee noted that with proper planning and collaboration between ministries, Mombera University will become a center of excellence that will benefit learners from across the country and the region.
The university is also expected to create jobs, spur local businesses and uplift the economy of the northern region.
As the meeting concluded, the message was clear.
Under the leadership of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and with committed ministers like Hon. Chimwemwe Chipungu driving implementation on the ground, government is determined to see Mombera University move from planning to reality.
The Ministry of Lands has pledged to continue working closely with other stakeholders to ensure that land is secured, infrastructure is planned well, and Malawians get the full benefits of this historic project.
Hon. Chipungu’s active participation has been welcomed as another sign that government is serious about expanding access to education and building the Malawi we all want.
