Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe City Kabwabwa-Dzenza Constituency Jonathan Mfune has called on police and local communities to strengthen their collaboration in addressing security challenges.
Mfune made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by Kanengo Police Station on Thursday to review resources contributed by various partners towards joint security patrols during the 2025 festive season.

Kanengo Police Station Public Relations Officer(PRO) Sub-Inspector Macfarlen Mseteka said the meeting aimed to brief stakeholders on the use of resources mobilised for the patrols and identify ways of improving cooperation, accountability and resource management.
Speaking during the meeting, Mfune commended the station’s Officer-in-Charge, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dan Sauteni, for introducing a new security plan ahead of the festive season.
He also thanked corporate partners and community members for their continued support, urging them to remain actively involved in maintaining security.
“Let’s work together; matters of safety are not for the police alone, the locals have to be part of it,” he said.
Sauteni thanked the stakeholders for their support and emphasised the need for transparency, accountability and timely communication, saying strong partnerships between police and communities are essential to improving public safety.
The meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss ways of strengthening future joint security operations.
Participants included representatives from Shayona Cement, AGL Malawi, Superior Blocks, the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA), AHL, A.S. Investments, the Malawi Savings Bank (MSB), Hail and Cotton, Rab Processors and PHL Group.
