It was pomp and colour in Blantyre as Minister of Education Science and Technology, Hon. Bright Msaka SC, presided over the Official Opening of the Fifth Annual Research Dissemination Conference of Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS).
The high-profile Conference, which is being held under the powerful theme “Multi-disciplinary Research and Innovation; Key to Economic Development,” has brought together top researchers, professors, students and innovators from across Malawi.
Speaking during the official opening, Hon. Bright Msaka called on all higher education institutions in Malawi to demonstrate greater value and measurable impact from resources invested in research and innovation.

Msaka said Government regards research capacity as part of Malawi’s national development infrastructure, not just as an academic exercise.
This is exactly what President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika promised Malawians during the campaign – that his government will prioritize research, science, technology and innovation as drivers of economic development.
And today, Malawians are seeing it bearing fruits.
Under President Mutharika’s leadership, universities like KUHeS are now getting the support they need to produce research that solves real Malawian problems – from health, to agriculture, to job creation.
Observers at the conference praised the Mutharika administration for restoring dignity and funding to higher education, a clear departure from the past.
The Fifth Annual Research Dissemination Conference continues in Blantyre.
