Karim Benzema has left Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal after just six months at the club.The 38-year-old striker’s departure was confirmed by Al-Hilal on Monday following an agreement between the two parties to terminate his contract.
Benzema joined Al-Hilal after leaving fellow Saudi club Al-Ittihad, where he had spent part of his career following his move to Saudi Arabia.His latest departure has created uncertainty over what comes next for the former France international.
It remains unclear whether Benzema will continue his professional career by joining another club in a different country.There is also speculation that the veteran forward could decide to retire from professional football after an illustrious career.
Benzema moved to Saudi Arabia in June 2023 after ending a highly successful 14-year spell with Spanish giants Real Madrid.The Frenchman established himself as one of the most important players in Real Madrid’s modern history.
During his 14 years at the Spanish club, Benzema made 648 appearances in all competitions.He scored an impressive 354 goals during that period, becoming one of the club’s leading goalscorers.
Benzema also helped Real Madrid win 25 trophies during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu.Among those successes were five UEFA Champions League titles, highlighting his contribution to the club’s dominance in European football.
His individual achievements reached their peak in 2022 when he won the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Benzema received the award after an outstanding season in which he played a key role in Real Madrid’s success.
At international level, Benzema represented France 97 times and scored 37 goals for his country.His international career also included a return to the France squad after several years away from the national team.
Benzema’s departure from Al-Hilal comes as the Saudi club continues to strengthen its attacking options.
Al-Hilal has reportedly signed England international Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa in a deal worth £50 million.
