Women of the Catholic Church at St. Martin Parish in Chirimba, under the Archdiocese of Blantyre, have organized a fundraising event today aimed at promoting self-reliance.
The event, which they have named “Chilundu Day,” is one of several initiatives the women are undertaking to support development projects within the parish.
Chairperson of the group, Jean Tadzelakufa, said the women have set a target of raising more than 5 million Kwacha.
She explained that the funds will be used to strengthen various development activities at St. Martin Parish.
According to Ms. Tadzelakufa, the day’s program has been designed to attract a large turnout from both parishioners and the wider community.

She said the organizers have prepared a variety of foods and different types of drinks for sale during the event.
In addition to food and beverages, the women have also arranged a range of cultural performances and activities.
Ms. Tadzelakufa noted that these cultural displays are intended to both celebrate the community’s heritage and help generate income for the parish.
She added that the fundraising drive reflects the women’s commitment to taking an active role in the growth and sustainability of their church.
Church leaders in attendance commended the women for their initiative and unity in supporting the work of the parish.
The “Chilundu Day” event highlights a growing trend among faith-based groups in Malawi to mobilize local resources for community development.
