President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed gratitude to the people of Lilongwe City Centre Constituency and Lilongwe Bunda Constituency for their massive turnout during the voter registration exercise, describing it as a clear sign of the people’s love and confidence in his administration. This follows earlier reports of record voter registration numbers in Lilongwe that signaled growing momentum for the Malawi Congress Party .

Addressing crowds at Pondamali Trading Centre and Mitundu Secondary School on Tuesday morning, Chakwera urged the people to vote for him in the September 16th General Elections so that his government can continue implementing the various developmental projects underway across the country. The President referenced his administration’s track record of constructing modern roads, hospitals, and police houses as demonstration of his commitment to developing Malawi .

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the mining sector, a move he described as key to revitalising Malawi’s economy. He also appealed to young people and traditional leaders to play a more proactive role in national affairs, emphasizing that Malawi needs leadership that cares for all citizens regardless of their political, religious, or tribal affiliations .

Highlighting his first-term achievements, Chakwera said his government has worked to ensure that Malawian farmers benefit from agriculture by offering them fairer commodity prices. He appealed to the electorate to give him a fresh mandate to consolidate and expand such gains, stating that no government has better plans for this nation than the one he is leading .

Earlier, Malawi Congress Party Regional Chairperson Zebron Chilondora urged constituents to turn out in large numbers for the September 16th General Election. In her remarks, Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Bunda Constituency, Maria Nakwenda Kambuzi, commended Chakwera for visiting the area, stating that the gesture is symbol of his humility and love for the people . This campaign event comes as fresh opinion polls place Chakwera in pole position, with analysts noting his surging popularity has rattled rivals and energized MCP supporters .
