The Secretary General of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Richard Chimwendo Banda, has underscored the importance of national unity as a critical pillar for Malawi’s accelerated development.

Speaking at a political rally held on Sunday at the Dowa Community Ground, Chimwendo Banda emphasized that with unity and collective effort, “nothing is impossible” to achieve as a nation.

He hailed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for what he described as bold and decisive leadership in spearheading Malawi’s economic revolution.

According to Chimwendo, President Chakwera has remained firmly committed to laying the foundation for a prosperous future by focusing on economic recovery, stability, and inclusive development.

He cited several ongoing government initiatives as evidence of this commitment, including the construction of bituminized roads, the promotion of law enforcement officers, teachers, and health workers, as well as the construction of modern police houses.

Chimwendo further highlighted government’s efforts to empower the youth through access to loans and other economic empowerment programmes.

In a significant pledge to the people of Dowa, Chimwendo Banda promised the construction of a new Dowa District Hospital to enhance health service delivery in the district.

The MCP Secretary General, who also serves as Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, urged Malawians to continue placing their trust in President Chakwera’s leadership.

He acknowledged that the administration’s initial period in office was challenging, describing it as a “turbulent take-off,” but assured the public that signs of economic “comfort” are now visible.

Chimwendo was accompanied at the rally by Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale and Minister of Lands Deus Gumba.

Also present were Former Minister of Trade and Industry Sosten Gwengwe, Deputy Minister of Gender Halima Daud, and MCP Regional Chairperson Patrick Zebron Chilondola.

The event marked another stop on the party’s “Road to September 16” campaign trail, aimed at reaffirming support for President Chakwera and highlighting the achievements of the MCP-led government.
