Copy Right Society of Malawi (COSOMA) has disbursed K190Million to artists at a colourful function which took place at Lilongwe Hotel in Lilongwe.

Cosoma Board Chair Robert Kapyepye said the grant is aimed at empowering artists to go outside the country and market themselves.

“This grant has been given to these artists in order to assist them to undertake international events so that they can be able to generate some much needed Forex for this country,” he said.

Kapyepye said the creative sector is one fertile ground that can assist this country in generating Forex.

“So today, we are trying to send our artists outside by giving them the fact that they are lacking financial capacity, so that they go and conquer the world, and probably hopefully that they should be able to end some foreign currency that they will bring back,” he said.

He said Cosoma has released almost 10 artists, giving them 189 million to go to various geographies.

He same some are going to the UK, others to the US, Nigeria, Zambia, “We believe that in those geographies, they will be able to earn some good resources that will improve their lives, but also support the country in terms of foreign currency generation , so it’s a great day for us,” he said.
