BLANTYRE – Tension and panic gripped the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) offices in Blantyre on Monday following a dramatic invasion by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the South, Mr. Mchacha, who was reportedly searching for a specific investigator.

According to eyewitness accounts, Mr. Mchacha arrived at the premises and demanded to see the officer. He was escorted by a receptionist to the investigators’ office, but the official in question was not present.

This prompted an angry outburst from the Governor, who accused the staff of hiding the officer. “I will deal with him! I will come again to show you the new Director General!” he was heard shouting, sending the office into chaos.

The incident caused widespread panic among employees. Witnesses described scenes of confusion as staff members fled their desks, with some rushing into restrooms to avoid the confrontation. In the commotion, some female staff members were reported to have mistakenly entered the men’s toilets.

A senior officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to fear of reprisals, confirmed the event and stated that Mr. Mchacha has threatened to return. “The Regional Governor has promised to come again and sort the officer once he is in office,” the source revealed.

This confrontation occurs against the backdrop of Mr. Mchacha’s own legal troubles, having previously been arrested on charges of being in possession of property suspected to have been obtained through corrupt practices.
