First Lady Monica Chakwera emphasized that while digitalization is transforming lives, girls and women must be safeguarded emotionally and digitally in online spaces. She made these remarks during the opening of the third Women and Girls in Cyber 2025 Annual Conference at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Chakwera noted that although mobile internet access remains limited in many areas, young people are demonstrating innovation and creativity, and more girls are expected to gain connectivity soon. She stressed the importance of preparing girls to navigate online spaces safely and confidently.
Additionally, she called for the full inclusion of women and girls in Malawi’s digital development, highlighting that women outnumber men in the population.
