Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba says his ministry has made strides in digitalising its systems to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of land service delivery in the country.
Speaking on Monday during a training workshop for lands officers and land registrars in Zomba, Gumba said the Ministry of Lands had long been burdened by manual record-keeping systems, which were not only inefficient but also vulnerable to loss or damage, particularly in cases of fire.
The minister said the introduction of the Land Information Management System (LIMS) has brought substantial changes, enabling Malawians to access land-related information digitally.

Gumba described the training as essential, highlighting its role in equipping lands staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate in a modern, digital environment.
“The rollout of digital systems will not only bring services closer to the people but also help reduce corruption and delays,” he said.
On his part,Secretary for Information and Digitalisation, Baldwin Chiyamwaka, echoed Gumba’s sentiments, saying the government is working diligently to improve the country’s internet infrastructure.
Chiyamwaka emphasized that as Malawi continues to digitalise various public services, reliable and efficient connectivity is crucial.
He further revealed that through the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), the ministry is setting up digital laboratories in secondary schools to serve as technology hubs in rural areas and that more communication towers are being erected across the country to improve connectivity.
