Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya has described newly appointed General Secretary Abu Chiwalo as a professional bringing a wealth of experience in financial management, operations, and governance.
Chiwalo’s appointment has sparked mixed reactions among football stakeholders and administrators saying he lacks experience to hold the new position.
But in an interview with 247 Malawi News,Haiya said Chiwalo’s appointment is backed by over 15 years of service across the public, private, and development sectors.

“As a Chartered Accountant, Auditor, and seasoned consultant with international exposure, he is expected to enhance FAM’s financial integrity, operational efficiency, and donor engagement,” said Haiya.
The FAM president also revealed that Chiwalo was part of the team that developed the association’s current strategic plan, giving him valuable insight into FAM’s priorities and objectives.
