Both Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers failed to secure maximum points on Saturday after being forced to share the spoils in separate FDH Premiership League encounters.
Mighty Wanderers needed a dramatic stoppage time goal from Promise Kamwendo to earn a 1-1 draw against Ekhaya FC at Mpira Stadium, while Silver Strikers were also held to a 1-1 draw by Civil Service United at Civo Stadium.
At Civo Stadium, Civil Service United made a bright start and went ahead in the 15th minute through Righteous Banda after being set up by Khumbo Mhone. The hosts maintained their lead going into the break.
Silver Strikers eventually found a way back into the game in the 66th minute when Charles Chipala struck the equaliser. The goal was Chipala’s third in two matches across all competitions, having netted a brace against Karonga United in the Airtel Top 8.
Righteous Banda’s impressive display earned him the Player of the Match accolade as both teams settled for a point each.
Meanwhile, Ekhaya FC looked set for a famous victory over Mighty Wanderers after Blessings Malinda put the hosts ahead in first-half stoppage time.
However, Wanderers salvaged a point deep into added time when Promise Kamwendo found the back of the net in the 91st minute to deny Ekhaya all three points.
The draws mean both Wanderers and Silver Strikers remain level on 14 points after seven league matches and neither side has changed position on the standings.
Wanderers continue to sit at the summit of the table, although they have handed Blue Eagles an opportunity to move above them should the Area 30 side defeat Karonga United on Sunday.
