Malawi expects fuel relief as 23.6 million litres arrive

By Staff Reporter

Malawi is expecting relief from persistent fuel shortages after the government, through the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA), purchased 23.6 million litres of petrol and diesel, with supplies expected to ease the situation by Tuesday next week.

Minister of Energy Jean Mathanga said 11.6 million litres are already in transit, while some fuel is being delivered to filling stations.

Mathanga expressed hope that the incoming supplies will ease congestion at filling stations, where motorists have been enduring long queues.

The shortages have disrupted transport and business activities as Malawi continues to face foreign exchange constraints that affect fuel imports.

Motorists, transport operators and businesses are now hoping the expected deliveries will improve fuel availability across the country.

However, the extent of the relief will depend on how quickly the fuel reaches filling stations and is distributed nationwide.
