Malawi Parliament in a special recognition of the Malawian girl child

It was all business unusual in the August house in the morning of Tuesday June 29, 2021 when many female Members of Parliament were seen dressing in school uniforms of different colors in support of a girl child who faces a lot of challenges in her education.

Speaking in the chamber Minister of Gender Patricia Kaliati said they did it in total solidarity with Malawian girls in their endeavors to make strides in life and reach the destination they want to. She added that they know the challenges girls are meeting in their education and that themselves too passed through the same to reach where they are today.

Taking his turn the leader of the house Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also minister of internal security said the girl child is facing a lot of challenges and that there is a need for everyone to join hands in fighting for the rights of girl child adding that as a country Malawi need to allocate more resources towards supporting the girls in the country.

Adding his voice Hon. Nicholas Dausi who is an MP for Mwanza Central said women and girl child deserve credit adding that what these female MPs have done has demonstrated that National Assembly is for the service to the nation with one reason, one interest for one nation and one people.

Making her comment, the Speaker for the National Assembly, madam Catherine Gotani Hara thanked all the female MPs who worn the uniforms in support of the girl child. Hara added that the gesture should be extended to constituencies by championing fight against abuse of rights for girls.
