Malawians in Cape Town appeals for support from Malawi Government

By Vincent Gunde

There have been Xenophobic violences in South Africa which mostly were hitting Johannesburg and Durban against illegal immigrants but this year, most parts of South Africa have been targeted.

Angry South African youths armed with big sticks and other offensive weapons are moving door to door hunting for illegal immigrants and this has forced many to leave their business premises and place of work into safety zones.

Pictures coming from South Africa are showing that when it comes to violence, police are there to protect life and property but not in South Africa where illegal immigrants are being beaten and whipped in full view of police officers speaking for itself that illegal immigrants are not safe in South Africa.

Countries such as Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia are busy taking their citizens from South Africa through buses while Ghana has airlifted its citizens and Malawi is yet to send 132 buses to bring its citizens back home trapped in Xenophobic violences in South Africa.

In view of this, a Malawian based in Cape Town – South Africa Lucy Kaisi, has appealed to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the DPP that when sending buses to South Africa, they should remember people of Cape Town who for the very first time have been trapped with Xenophobic violences in South Africa.

Kaisi said in Cape Town, many Malawians have been affected and they are camped in one hall sleeping on the floor without mats and this is posing a big challenge to women who have babies and other children.

She said most of these Malawians are ready to go back home appealing to the Government of Malawi to send direct buses to Cape Town even though it is too far from Johannesburg and Durban.

” No one prepared for that Xenophobic violences that it can target us, we were only hearing it in Johannesburg and Durban, but this time, most parts of the South Africa are targeted where illegal immigrants are being hunted like wild animals,” said Kaisi.

South African Chief Justice Mandisa Maya has banned the 30th June, 2026 demonstrations planned for all foreigners to leave South Africa back to their countries of origin.

Maya said she had declared the ban in the interest of justice, Constitutional order, and the protection of all who live in South Africa that any planned protest or public demonstration that promotes hostility, intimidation, violence or unlawful discrimination against foreign nationals – Proscribed and banned.

“Such actions are inconsistent with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the values of human dignity, equality and freedom,” said Maya.

She has warned South Africans that any person who takes part in incites, or engages in any act of violence, intimidation, harassment or destruction of property against foreign nationals will be guilty of a criminal offence and will face the full might of the law saying the rights and safety of all persons in South Africa will be protected.
