In a bold move to transform Malawi’s agricultural sector and empower its youth, President Lazarus Chakwera has outlined a comprehensive plan to boost food production and create jobs.
Speaking at the MCP 2025 campaign launch in Mzimba, Chakwera emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency in food production, stating that “as a country, we need to make our own food; that way hunger will be a thing of the past.”

Economic Vision
President Chakwera’s vision is built on the Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) strategy, aiming to harness Malawi’s resources for economic growth.
With the World Bank projecting potential revenues from mineral exports to reach $30 billion between 2026 and 2040, the country’s economic landscape is set to shift significantly.
Job Creation and Youth Empowerment
The President highlighted the need to create more job opportunities, especially for the youth, who comprise the largest population demographic.
By increasing access to youth loans and promoting entrepreneurship, the government aims to empower young Malawians to earn a decent living and grow their income.
Investing in Future Generations
Chakwera emphasized the importance of investing in the future generations, stating that “if we want this country to become better, we should not be afraid to invest in the future generations.”
This commitment is reflected in the proposed Sovereign Welfare Fund and the promise to have at least four ministers below 35 years of age in his next cabinet.
Conclusion
President Chakwera’s vision for Malawi’s future is centered on food security, youth empowerment, and economic growth.
With a focus on implementing policies that benefit the majority of Malawians, the government is poised to make significant strides in addressing poverty and unemployment.
As the country looks to the future, one thing is clear: Malawi is on the path to progress, driven by the determination of its leaders and the resilience of its people.
