By Chisomo Phiri

Maranatha Academy, in partnership with Sharda University in India, on Tuesday held an Open School Fair Day at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

The event was aimed at giving prospective students and parents an opportunity to explore various academic programmes and courses offered by Maranatha Academy, as well as learn more about the limitless study opportunities at Sharda University, which operates under the motto ‘Beyond Boundaries.’

In an interview with journalists,Maranatha Academy Managing Director Enerst Kaonga, said the decision to publicly engage parents and students was further aimed at clearing misconceptions and providing accurate information about the partnership.

“When you are introducing something good, there is no need to hide it. Many people have been speculating about Sharda University, so we invited parents and students to come and hear directly from us,” he said.

Kaonga stressed that the world is becoming increasingly digital and competitive, and that Malawian students must be equipped to compete for opportunities globally.

“If you study only in Malawi, it can be difficult to work in countries like South Africa or Japan. But when you earn your degree from Shada University, your qualification is recognized internationally,” he said.

Kaonga added that while the University of Malawi(UNIMA ) remains an important institution, Sharda University offers broader global exposure and competitiveness.

“Our aim is to train young people to become leaders and entrepreneurs, not just graduates with theoretical knowledge. We want our students to have practical, first-hand experience so they can start businesses and create jobs, rather than relying solely on academic theory,” he said.

Kaonga also revealed that the open day attracted a large turnout of both parents and students, with many showing interest in the opportunities the partnership will provide.

He said they will host another similar event next week at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe to further engage with parents and prospective students.

“We want everyone to be informed about these opportunities. This is a step forward from what we have been doing in the past, and we are excited to share it,” said Kaonga.

On his part,Sharda University Country Manager for Malawi, Rahul Pal, described the institution’s partnership with Maranatha Academy as a major milestone in expanding education opportunities for Malawian students.

Pal said the collaboration helps to  provide world-class education that empowers young Malawians to contribute to national development.

“We have an agreement with Maranatha Academy, and it is a very big achievement for both Maranatha and Sharda that we have come together. We want to help all Malawian students, and it is a pleasure to work with  Kaonga. He is a visionary who understands what Sharda is trying to bring to Malawian students,” he said.

Pal revealed that Sharda University has been active in Malawi since 2017, but is now in a position to expand its presence.

“We are considering of opening a regional office here soon. For now, we are working closely with Maranatha Academy, but in the next seven years, we also plan to establish a permanent presence in Malawi. This is just the beginning, and there is much more to come,” he said.

Maranatha Academy which operates under the motto ‘Meriora Sequumur’ is composed of Maranatha Boys Academy , Maranatha Girls Academy , Maranatha Boys Capital Academy and Maranatha Girls Capital Academy.
