Mary Navicha leads condolences for former parliamentarian Joyce Chitsulo

By Jones Gadama

Thyolo Thava Member of Parliament, Hon. Mary Navicha, has described the passing of Mwanza West MP Joyce Chitsulo as a significant loss to Malawi, particularly in women’s circles.

Chitsulo died on June 6 after collapsing at her house and was pronounced dead at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

According to Navicha, Chitsulo’s demise is felt beyond the political realm, as the two shared moments of faith and camaraderie. “Joy, other than politics, was also busy praying together with her fellow SDA women,” Navicha said, recalling a wonderful time they had together at Malamulo SDA Church on Women’s Day.

Navicha and the late Chitsulo

Navicha called on every woman to rally behind the Chitsulo family during this difficult time, acknowledging the late MP’s dedication to her work and her community.

Chitsulo’s recent activities included joining Malawi Congress Party members in Mzuzu to commemorate the life of Malawi’s first president, Kamuzu Banda, on May 14, where she was involved in a minor car accident.

As news of Chitsulo’s passing spreads, Malawians are reflecting on her contributions to the country’s development.

Born out of a political family and having served her constituency, Chitsulo leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

Mary Navicha, known for her leadership roles within the Democratic Progressive Party, including serving as the party’s Director of Women and former Deputy Chief Whip, emphasized the impact of Chitsulo’s passing on women in Malawi.
