MISA Malawi trains journalists in TikTok journalism ahead of elections

By Jones Gadama

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi chapter has launched a five-day training session for media practitioners on TikTok journalism and elections.

Supported by DW Akademie, the training aims to equip journalists with the skills to effectively utilize the popular social media platform to disseminate quality, real-time, and audience-oriented information on the upcoming general elections.

MISA Malawi Chairperson Golden Matonga believes that the training will enable journalists to harness the potential of TikTok, which has over 1.6 billion active users globally, particularly among the younger population.

Matonga emphasized the importance of accurate and credible information on TikTok as the country heads towards the elections.

The training underscores the growing significance of social media platforms like TikTok in shaping public discourse and informing citizens about critical issues, including elections.

By empowering journalists with the necessary skills, MISA Malawi aims to promote informed decision-making and civic engagement among Malawians.
