NFRA Chair pays tribute to late broadcaster Brian Banda

By Burnett Munthali

Malawi’s media industry has been urged to preserve the values of courage, accuracy and innovation associated with veteran broadcaster and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Director General Brian Banda, following his death.

Chairperson of the National Food Reserve Agency, Reverend Howard Matiya Nkhoma, told MBC Digital that Banda’s death was a major loss for both the country’s media community and Malawi as a whole.

Nkhoma described Banda as a prominent national figure whose work reached audiences across the country through television and radio. He said the broadcaster used his programmes not only for entertainment but also to inform, educate and encourage national cohesion.

He said Banda’s ability to address issues affecting Malawians made him an influential figure in the country’s broadcasting industry.

Nkhoma called on journalists and other media professionals to draw inspiration from Banda’s approach to journalism, particularly his commitment to truth, courage and creative broadcasting.

He said the best way to honour Banda’s memory would be to continue using the media as a platform for public education, national unity and Malawi’s social and economic development.
