NRFA Endorses Haiya for Second Term as FAM President

By Rahim Abdul

The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) has endorsed Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya for another term ahead of the association’s elections next year.

The endorsement was announced on Saturday during the launch of the K70 million Chiwemi Investment NRFA League One at Chiwaza Ground in Nkhata Bay District, where Haiya was the guest of honour.

NRFA chairperson Masiya Nyasulu said the association believes Haiya deserves another mandate because of the progress made in developing football since taking office.
Nyasulu said Haiya has demonstrated a clear vision for transforming the game and should be given more time to implement his plans.

An endorsement for Haiya

He added that the Northern Region football governing body is confident continuity in leadership will help accelerate football development across the country.

The endorsement comes months before FAM members are expected to elect new office bearers for the next term.

NRFA became the latest football body to publicly declare its support for Haiya’s re-election bid.
Earlier, both the Beach Soccer Association and the Central Region Football Association also endorsed Haiya for another term as FAM president.

The growing support from football affiliates could strengthen Haiya’s position ahead of the elections.

The launch of the Chiwemi Investment NRFA League One also highlighted continued efforts to promote grassroots football in the Northern Region through increased sponsorship.

Football stakeholders attending the event expressed optimism that sustained investment in regional competitions will help identify and develop more talented players.

With endorsements continuing to emerge from key football associations, attention is now shifting to next year’s FAM elections, where Haiya is expected to seek another mandate.
