Number of suspects arrested over false genital disappearance claims risen from five to fourteen

Police have arrested nine more people for allegedly publishing false information likely to cause fear and alarm to the public sorounding the disappearance of male private parts bringing the total number from five to fourteen.

The nine more arrested suspects include Boniface Beka, Clement Kaduya (39) Precious Kaduya (39), Shadrick Sande (20), Chisomo Eliasi (18), Jeremiah Esaya (20), Edward Fatsani (20), Nelson Andiseni (18) and Beatrice Geofry (42), all from Nsanje district.

According to Deputy National Police Spokesperson, Alfred Chinthere, the arrests follow reports made on Sunday by the suspects who claimed that their private parts had disappeared after coming into contact with other people.

Chinthere says police referred the complainants to Nsanje District Hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed that all their private parts were intact and that no abnormality was found.

There are ongoing myths and allegations of magical acts circulating in the district which are causing panic among members of the public in Nsanje and Chikwawa districts.
