By McLloyd Kudzingo

Singer Tunosiwe Mwakalinga popularly known by her stage name ‘Tuno’ had a nasty experience at her ‘Home Coming Concert’ in Karonga when she was allegedly manhandled by fans.

Reports indicate that the singer and her crew were manhandled on Saturday, September 28 at the event which was organised by Mwashunguti Entertainment Company.

The ‘Indedi’ hit-maker who also hails from Karonga, was the only big artist performing on the day and she was allegedly paid MK1.9 million to perform for 3 hours but she only performed for 1 hour a thing that did not go down well with the organisers.

Tuno

When Tuno left the stage after her performance, one of the organisers grabbed the microphone telling fans not to allow the artist to leave the stage as she was paid to perform for 3 hours not 1 hour.

This prompted the fans to go backstage and start starting attacking Tuno, beating her little sisters and her booking manager.

But in a series of Facebook posts on Sunday morning, Tuno said the organisers of the event planned the attack and said she could not perform for 3 hours because the organisers did not pay her the full amount that the two sides agreed on.

“I performed for 1 hour , and this guy, the organiser his name is Victor,  started the chaos saying I should perform for 3 hours . Mind you he didn’t pay what we agreed and I had to use some of my money to come to Karonga,  for my fans and family, I am fully disappointed, very disappointed,” said Tuno.

Meanwhile, Police in Karonga said they have not yet received any complaint on the matter.

He then secured a scholarship in 2022 to do postgraduate studies in India.

According to one of the people who have been following the artist, Deus Sandram, Billiat who was once a street kid following the death of his parents, was spotted by Radio personality late Kennedy Mkombezi after seeing his talent in music.

He was later handed over to the Kaphuka family of the defunct Kaphuka Private Schools who helped him push for his education.

“It had to take people like the late D.J  Ken Mkombezi to spot the young man from the streets. He was later presented to the late Dr. Samuel Kaphuka of Kaphuka Private Schools then.. along the way he was adopted by one of the Kaphuka’s sons, the late Jackson and the wife Sella Kaphuka,” said Sandram.

However, Sandram said that it was sad that both Mkombezi, Dr Kaphuka and Jackson Kaphuka passed on some years back before they could see Billiati’s academic success.

He then urged Malawians to emulate the life of Mkombezi and the Kaphuka family in helping those who are in need.
